February. One of her least favorite months. She'd always hated how the marketing squad always made any woman not in a relationship feel like a failure. She preferred to stay single that time of year out of spite more than anything. And she was doing it again this year.

Sort of.

Maybe.

Whatever. It was close enough.

She noticed there were new faces that didn't belong to natives around, and that had her slipping up to the Station to see if maybe someone blonde and very much wanted had woken. Maybe it was a stupid hope, but she hated knowing that Trish was there but not really there. That she wasn't in control of herself, something she knew her friend would hate. She wound up being disappointed, again, staring at her face through the clear window, feeling that sick feeling in the pit of her stomach at how close to dead she looked. She just didn't trust the people that brought them here. Jessica didn't trust many people, and one of the few she did was cut off from her right now and it made her... edgy.

Tensions were rising between the cities, and she was finding it more and more difficult when she had to run errands between them. Her new-fangled ability to fly was coming in handy, helping her get over city walls past hours and making travel a little easier, but she was still looked at with sideways glances and dirty looks whenever she had to pop into Olympia. Funnily enough, she was used to that, and it just rolled off her back. But she didn't like that she didn't fully know why there was this us vs them mentality going on between the cities. She also didn't like that it looked like the people brought here by the Orbiters were going to be shoved into it, whether they wanted to be or not. Frankly, she was sick of having other people's shit rained down on her, but it looks like even with her world being destroyed, that part of her life wasn't over yet.

"A dinner, huh?" Of course. Because Clark was the type to do that sort of thing. Flowers. Music. Candles. And damn her if she didn't find herself thinking that was kind of a sweet thing. She leaned in against him when he sat beside her, tipping her head up so she could keep her nose buried in the crook of his neck. Right there, he smelled... delicious. "Mmm, you pick a night and I'll make it free."

Their schedules were pretty fluid, and with Jessica being a 'pick my own jobs' type of girl, she could do things at her own pace. Her hand moved to find one of his, sliding her fingers between his and letting out a soft sigh. "You're ruining my edge, Kent."

"Yes, a dinner, just for you," he says with a grin as he turns to kiss where he can. "And that is summarily untrue. No one can ruin your edge."

He kisses again, a little lower, just behind her jaw.

"I like your edge."

"Better be for us. Because a dinner just for me is going to involve me on the couch with a bottle." She felt her eyes drift closed, a pleasant kind of warmth spilling over her from that kiss, her fingers squeezing his. "You just got back in. Want me to get you something?" She was trying to keep from being sucked into that sudden flutter of anticipation that curled low in her belly, drawing back to look at him with a small smile that most who knew her would be surprised she could manage. But that was a look just for him.

He's not particularly hungry, since he ate his lunch late at work, but he can't help a chuckle at her idea of a 'dinner for her'.

"We're both going to eat, but let's just say the menu was designed with you in mind."

"Why am I picturing a table filled with bottles?" She rolled her eyes, but she was still grinning, giving his hand another squeeze before she moved to stand. "You haven't even changed yet. Want a bath? Shower?" Don't say it, Jessic-- "A massage?"

"A massage is just going to end with you having sore hands," he points out, but it isn't a no, exactly. Instead, he re-positions to let him look over at her a little more clearly.

"I was planning on a shower, though. I know I don't smell all that great, even if I don't sweat that much."

Dragon pens were still animal pens, after all.

"I got that special oil still. We never got around to testing it." Waggling her brows at him, she shot him a grin over her shoulder as she left her room and went to start him a shower. "You smell fine. It's kind of unfair, actually. All us mere mortals reek after a day of hard labor, and you're... well, I could probably eat off you. I feel insulted in my genes."

"But you're always in your 'jeans'," and if that dad-joke didn't turn you off, Jess, nothing will. But he dips over to peck a kiss.

"I wouldn't say no to experimenting. Just stop if it starts making you sore, though."

She swats at him and starts the water, plucking at his shirt to help him get it off. "First you try to knock me out with the worst joke ever, and now you're trying to boss me around? Who do you think you are, Kent?" She pulled the shirt off over his head, dropping it on the ground and lifting up onto her tiptoes to steal a kiss.

"The worst, clearly," he says, letting her pull the shirt off and toss it where she wants. He'll pick it up later. For now, he takes the opportunity to lean in for another kiss. She'd stolen one but he wanted to give her another one.

She hummed a little in assent, but her hands are moving to help him start getting his pants undone. "Clearly. Have your shower. I'm going to go make some coffee and grab something to eat." Because she'd been so idiotically nervous over whether he'd like his gift or not, she hadn't eaten yet.

"There's some chicken in the 'fridge in a container if you want to heat it up," he notes as he starts undoing his own pants with a teasing little smile. He'll get there, promise.

"I won't take too long. Promise."

"See, now you're presenting me with a problem. I can either go eat and be responsible, or I can indulge my desires and just watch you have a shower." She let him undo his own pants, stepping back as if to enjoy the view.

He's shucking his pants as he looks up and over at her, shooing her with one hand.

"Go eat and when you come back, we can get our hands on each other."

Yeah, she was going to take a minute backing out of the bathroom. Clark getting undressed was worth a moment or two to enjoy, and she was biting her lip and rolling her eyes by the time she left, heading into the kitchen to pick at what might be available in the fridge.

Why heat up chicken when you could just eat it cold?

Clark is in and out of the shower relatively quickly, though he takes just a little longer than absolutely necessary so the heat of the water can melt him a little. He makes his way out of the bathroom in his towel, hair still wet, and goes to find Jess to make sure she ate something.

She had been picking at the chicken, but the moment she saw him in the towel, her brain sort of... short circuited. There was a piece of meat caught between her finger and thumb, halfway between the drumstick and her mouth, mouth open and eyes fixed on that body covered in nothing but a towel, water droplets, and absolutely no shame.

Jess had given him that gift out of sentiment. Out of... hell, she could admit it to herself; love. But lust was the first thing that came to mind when she looked at him, humming in the back of her throat as she fought to remember that she was doing something.

... What was she doing?

He's just going to raise him eyebrow as he watches her freeze frame/record scratch right before his eyes. Then very gently, walk over to kiss the top of her head.

"Don't forget your chicken."

She felt like a child being scolded, so, like a child being scolded, she reached for the most adult thing she could think of; profanity. "Fuck my chicken."

Wait...

"Look, you can't just... walk around in a towel all wet and sexy and expect me to just carry on like normal. I'm only human. Unlike some ungraciously sexy aliens around here."

"I refuse to fuck your chicken," he says with a firm nod, "and if that's how you're going to act, I'll just make sure to get dressed before coming out."

Is he teasing? Is he being serious? Hard to tell with the way he's smiling a little.

"I swear to god, I will make you regret that decision." Clark naked or walking around in a towel was all she had to keep her going. Taking that away from her was just... well, it was rude.

"I've already stated this is a Kent-naked house. You should technically be naked as soon as you enter it. I'm just being gracious and allowing you clothing beyond that."

Really.

"You proposed to make it a Kent-naked house," he points out in reply with a tilt of his head, "but you couldn't get the majority vote. Two thirds is required for something like that."

"I bet if I asked anyone in the city, anyone at all, they'd agree with me." She gave him a pointed look, because clearly she was right. "And that only counts if there's three people. When in doubt, the majority vote goes to the female. I don't make the rules, buddy."

She finished that piece of chicken, knowing she hadn't won shit, but pretending she had either way. Because there he was, wet and in a towel. Felt like a win to her.

"When in doubt, we go to a compromise, hence the towel," he says with a laugh as he tips his head back towards his own bedroom. "Now, should I get dressed or no?"

"My libido says no, but the whole point in getting you that gift says yes." What did that mean? That meant that Jessica was interested in more than sex. With him, at least. "Or I can get that oil out and we can see if it has any effect on you." There were things she actually didn't mind about this place; the alcohol and some of the little... extras were becoming part of that.

Clark himself sort of went without saying.
