[In the week following the riots, Miles came home to find that not only had his shared residence been raided and looted, it had also been burnt in places. He was grateful that he and his housemate had decided to vacate the property during the early days, though he had a dislocated shoulder and three cracked ribs to show for. However, it would have been far far worse if they had been caught inside while the flames were going. He counted his blessings.

Still, it was frustrating to have his home vandalized for the second time in the six months that he had lived here. He was going to have to work harder and move to a better area soon.

If he were to have any visitors they would see him attempting to clean off graffiti on the exterior of the house. There was a small pomeranian running about underfoot yapping excitedly as he worked. It was obvious that he was straining when reaching, only to stop and clutch at his torso, cursing in a loud string of colorful German.]

Please don’t give me that look!

[Was he talking to the dog? Who knew?]

[Miles had taken the liberty to contact Venom over the course of the week. He needed a break from all the house repairs and what better way was there than sitting with a friend and enjoying tea and conversation? The kitchen repairs were done at least and he was happy with that, he also took some time to make a set of finger sandwiches with the bread that Phoenix had baked earlier.

Pess was at his heels the entire time. If there was anything that he was really happy over, it was the return of his beloved dog. He had honestly cried the day he had awoken to the dog lapping cheerfully at his face. He dropped a piece of meat to the fluffball who wouldn’t stop begging.
As soon as there was knocking at the door, Pess shot off like a bullet, presumably to welcome their new guest.]

Come on in. The door is unlocked!

[He called out while finishing up preparing the sandwiches.]

[When Venom received the invitation from Miles, he thought the address looked familiar. And then he arrived, noticing that the home was the same home he helped treat Phoenix. Well, perhaps Phoenix and Miles lived together. They were attorneys and all, so it made sense. Nothing odd about that. Of course there's that dreaded realization that he's kissed both of them, slept with one, and now he's thinking if they talk about him. No, that's ridiculous. They're adults. They wouldn't bother talking about someone like him.

As he opens the door, a very fluffy Pomeranian is right there greeting him with a wag and soft panting. And to show that Venom's been adjusting to regular human life, he kneels down to pet the small dog.]

Hello, Miles. I hope you don't mind that I brought some cakes. One of the tea shops near my flat makes these every afternoon, and they pair very well with most tea.

Welcome. I see that Pess is already giving you his warmest regards.

[The dog barked happily and gave a whole bunch of enthusiastic kisses in return for the pets, jumping and hopping around him. The house was obviously in the middle of repairs, the front room windows showing charred markings. The rest of it was devoid of anything, save a few blankets folded up in a corner and a table with several chairs in the center of the room. There was a statue of Lady Justice who was missing an arm and charred black as well.]

Thank you for the cakes, Please set it on the table. I took the liberty of making some sandwiches as well for our lunch.

[Miles comes out from the kitchen, stiffly, a platter of sandwiches in one arm. He was dressed down, casually in a white button-down shirt and a frilly pink apron. He set the plate down wincing visibly as he did so.]

I apologize for the mess and thank you so much for joining me for lunch. Pess and I have been mostly working on repairs the last few days.

[Pess barked enthusiastically at the mention of his name, wagging his tail at Venom.]

[ayes]

[You, meanwhile, had just gone off on a walk around Olympia. Ostensibly to check on all the damage from the riots, but mostly because...

...she needed to get out and do something. Staying in the Silk Wyrm, even as they cleaned up, was just depressing. So she walked through the streets, just going where her feet carried her.

Until she hears cursing in a language she doesn't recognize and the yapping of a dog. She likes dogs! It draws her in that direction.

And she sees the source of the yapping, and the source of the cursing, a man holding his side.] Ah-- sorry, is everything okay?

[He looks familiar!]

It's nice to meet you, Pess.

[Venom didn't want to comment about the state of their home as he didn't want to seem rude. Had he known about the damage sooner, he would have offered help to repair. He makes a mental note to drop by in the future to lend a hand. At least his friend and his new dog are in good spirits.

He sets the small pair of cakes on the table, noting the adorable apron and the wincing.]

You're welcome. I think it's safe to say I'm getting used to being invited over by friends. The sandwiches look delicious, by the way.

He loves meeting new people. He is definitely the extrovert out of the pair of us.

[He chuckled softly. Pess gave one very happy bark. He liked when his name was mentioned it seemed.]

I'm glad.

Thank you. My best friend somehow picked up baking as a skill when he wasn't litigating, and bakes bread for our household. He is amazing at it.

I only found out myself about the skill recently. You can know someone your entire life, and you can still be surprised by them.

Now onto the greater question. What type of tea would you like? I should get the kettle ready.

A baker, you say? I've done some baking, as well. Had I known I would have brought some rolls or a bread loaf.

[He wonders if this best friend is Phoenix, and a small knot starts to grow in his stomach. He's ignoring it for the sake of his friend because chances are he's overthinking it.]

At least it's a pleasant surprise.

Do you have hibiscus tea, by any chance?

Oh! I had no idea. I would love to try your bread sometime. Cooking, in general, is a rather new venture for me, I'm afraid.

[He disappeared into the kitchen once more, setting a kettle to boil. He rummaged around his cupboard as well, before muttering an ecstatic "Eureka" as he found a few tea tins that had survived the raid.]

I found some. It's only a third of the tin but it may be enough for our lunch.

[He returned from the kitchen to set down a small platter with two mugs and a small ceramic teapot.]

The water shouldn't be too long, now. Er... How have you been?

I've gotten more into it lately. I might even convince my roommate to let us host a small dinner for us and our neighbors. If it does come to fruition, you're invited.

[He waits patiently for the tea while staring down those small sandwiches. That little knot grows as he takes in more of the damaged surroundings. He knows he's been here before and he can't help thinking about the possible connection between Phoenix and Miles.]

Doing what I can, really. Our area was mostly spared, but I've been going out to help with treating the injured. An assassin that heals...

[That still sounds really weird.]

Thank you. that is really sweet of you.

[And with that the kettle made a sharp high pitched hiss. He slipped back into the kitchen, returning with the kettle and a small bowl of meat for Pess. The small dog was following his master back and forth between the rooms, yapping happily at the prospect of being fed. He settled down on the seat across from Venom and held out a piece of meat for the dog.]

That's wonderful though. Better to heal than harm.

Actually, I was wondering if I could ask you a favor.

It's the least I can do for a friend.

[He watches Miles and Pess interact, curious about his own recent addition back home. It's only an egg, but it's been kept warm and away from anything dangerous in case it hatches while he's gone. Perhaps it'll be a lizard or bird companion. He'll just have to wait and see.

He readies his mug.]

Oh? What kind of favor?

[Miles shifted uncomfortably in his seat. In all truth, his body was hurting far more than he was letting on. He untied his apron with his right hand and placed it on the table.]


Er... If it isn't too much trouble...

Would you be able to take a look at my ribs and left shoulder? I believe that I may have cracked them and dislocated my shoulder. We managed to pop things back into place but I want to make certain that it is healing properly.

I know that in this kind of thing one just really needs time more than anything else. But it would be nice to have a set of more professional eyes on the injuries.

[He had doubled over and was now focusing on trying to get the pain to subside. After a few deep breaths and some gentle encouragement from Pess, he felt well enough to stand.

Oh hello there!]

Ah yes. I'm alright. Thank you. I had overestimated my ability to stretch in order to remove this vandalism.

[Pess the pomeranian came running up to greet her as well, yapping excitedly.]

You, was it? How have you been?

What happened?

[A look of worry washes over him as he moves closer.]

I mean, I'll be happy to look at them. Had I known, I would have brought my salves. A friend of mine makes some really good ones that soothe muscle pain.

[Venom reaches out and gently touches his friend's shoulder, checking for any surface aches and pains.]

If you don't mind, can you remove your shirt?

My friend and I had to evacuate because of the riots. Despite trying to keep a low profile, somehow we ended up caught up in a brawl. I think I got knocked into a wall by some sort of blast.

[He is certainly not mentioning that the brawl was started by someone trying to steal Phoenix's pet tree in the middle of the chaos.

Miles audibly hisses in pain at the contact, his shoulder was still quite swollen and sore. He nods and uses his good hand to unbutton his shirt, he struggled slightly trying to slip it off before finally setting it on the table.

His torso was covered in bruises on his left side. His shoulder was visibly swollen and there were angry raised red marks on the side of his ribs.]

How bad does it look?

[Venom examines the exposed bruises closer. They look horrible, but there are clear signs that he's healing like he's supposed to. Nothing that suggests anything serious.]

You sustained some damage, but I don't think it's anything serious. A few cold compresses and some rest will help ease the soreness. If you need anything for the pain, I can ask my friends to mix a stronger salve for you.

[He double-checks the angrier marks, noting their healing despite their appearance. Miles was very lucky.]

[Ever since the chaos of the riot Phoenix had been doing whatever he could to compensate for what he was unable to prevent. He was a pacifist by nature and he had little to no knowledge with things like weapons or magic. Truthfully, the whole thing had been making him feel a little useless since he had arrived on El Nysa.

In a world that seemed much like something out of a fantasy story, being a normal person made everyone and everything else around you seem so powerful.

But he could still help! And so, thanks to a certain bicycle that arrived at his home after the chaos (Did one of the looters accidentally leave it there? How odd.), Phoenix had been traveling from district to district helping anyone he could. Of course, between helping file paperwork and medicine at the infirmary, helping clean up and organize the theater district, keeping an eye on the courtesans at work, and aiding Miles with repairs on the house as well as his injuries, Phoenix was in a near constant state of exauhstion. Not that he wasn't used to that sort of thing.

But perhaps that was why he didn't even think as he opened the front door to his home, yawning out loudly and stretching his arms out in the air as he made his way in.]

YaaaAAAAAaaaah.... Hey Miles, you feeling any better- Ah?

[That was the oddest sequence of events that Miles had ever witnessed and he's seen some pretty weird shit in court.]

What on earth?!

[He turned to look at Venom, still stunned.]

[That also was the guiltiest expression he has ever seen and he's been a prosecutor since he was 20.

What did Phoenix do this time?! Was he involved in getting himself almost killed? Was the Mafia after him? It could e any number of things.]

E-Excuse me for a second, Venom.

[He got up and opened the door, calling out down the street.]

PHOENIX WRIGHT! Get your ass back in here this instant and tell me what you've done!

[The effort of yelling hurt a lot but he was in full prosecutor dad mode.]

[So Phoenix did live with Miles. Little by little it all started coming together. He watches as the prosecutor goes after the other man, yelling at the top of his lungs.]

Miles, you shouldn't strain yourself. You'll make those injuries worse.
