Most people here take a little coaxing, so that's not a surprise. Bruce himself isn't exactly the most forthcoming person on the planet. Even with the smokescreens he has, they're just that: thick smoke.

And he's a soldier — Bruce likes soldiers, as much as he can be said to like anyone based on what they do, if only because equilibrium with them is easier. They can handle themselves in a crisis, and they (mostly) tend not to do annoying shit like try to make friends with him. He rather prefers to function as a tactical team.
