For work.

[ It probably seems anticlimactic. Mikazuki looks aside, at this moment that ripples close to the epicenter of all his decisions. He's not regarding this moment being on display very warmly, but he's accepting of it. It's written on his face — he'd do it again, if he had to.

Around them, the room seems to fade and clear, opening up by regressing. Instead of an enclosed space and the sound of that gun impacting flesh, a reddish sky arcs overhead. There are buildings now, clusters of sturdy brick, iron, and stucco. They have their charm. They could have been beautiful once, even if they're dilapidated and edging on slums now, where the busiest corners are taverns and brothels. All the while, he's steady through the shift, his fingers clasped in hers.

For us, you could stay out here where nothing changed.

[ It's cold, now. Mars is frigid even in sunlight. A closer look yields alleyways with small bodies in them, still with sleep or worse. Hovels cobbled together and tucked away with little more than some canvas against the elements. Mikazuki concentrates. ]

Or you could get the surgery.

[ And at least get meals and pay with your beatings. ]
