Axel waves a hand when the kid looks apologetic, but when he actually apologizes, he realizes he may have made a mistake. Wait, that didn't sound like what he'd said earlier. Had he said his name, and it just sort of sounded like sorry? ... Crap. Um. Okay, he can fix this.

"A fork, huh?" Axel grins a little. "Rats, I was hoping for a spoon, or maybe a pair of chopsticks," he quips, and then glances down for a reaction. He's just got to find the right moment to ask the right question to figure out what he'd misheard the first time around.
