"They were near my pod, the one I woke in." Which had been a relief. She hadn't had to search far to find her mother, sisters and husband. Even her mother in law was present, much to her chagrin. Then there were the faces of those that died, the family that she had lost over the years to a long and bloody war. What should be a relief struck her instead as further bargaining. "They return the dead to us as well, but it is only to entice us more, I imagine. Look what we have to offer, now behave and do as you're told."

She shook her head, trying to keep from falling into senseless anger. It wouldn't do her any good now. "The 20th century? That far into the future? England must be different then."
