Slaine isn't one for pity, but if it's from her he'll take it. He'll take anything and everything she has to offer and give him. It hurts though, in a way, when she says she feels as if she's never truly understood him. Ah, how ironic is it then, that he has her physically the closest he's ever had...only for her to feel distant in mind and heart.

"I'm sorry."

The apology comes out before he can really stop it. He feels guilty now, for having hidden it from her...but there really had been no other choice. There wouldn't have been anything she could've done, despite her position. Asseylum's protection only reached so far.

Despite himself he can't help but run his fingers through her hair, even if he realizes, belatedly, there's a small tremble to them.

"I'll never keep anything from you ever again, I promise."

He isn't sure if he can keep such a promise, but he'll be damned if he doesn't try.
