[ No matter what he expects when those shadows in the room begin to dance, he is unprepared for the face Ardyn wears when he lets the darkness seep through. It's a visage he's only seen in a flash before, but now, this daemonic part of Ardyn is fully on display for him to see, to witness. A testimony of what he took upon himself, of what he gave up and how he was spurned for it.

He takes an involuntary step back - he can't help it. And though he flinches, he doesn't look away, much as he might like to. As much as the sight makes the cold hand of fear size up around his heart and bleed him of breath. ]

[ It's a pathetic response, hardly one at all, and it is an absolute battle to get his jaw cooperating again, to not let his fear control him as it has so often in the past. He won't be that person anymore.
