( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES

Well? [His voice is low, but it shows some amusement, at least.] You heard what she said.
[The man turns his bemused stare onto the newcomer, who only stares stoically back. Joy.]
no subject
She'll put her attention back on the strange man again though. ]
... Thank you.
[ At least she's polite!! ]
no subject
[He stares at the back of the native as they walk away, winged serpent completely unaffected by the awkwardness of the situation. Nothing against the man, really, but she did say no!]
People here...they speak in tongues, sometimes. It makes giving a direct answer more difficult than it needs to be.
[He's the type of person who appreciates a curt answer, apparently.]
no subject
You're right. He didn't look like he'd take it.
[ Her answer, that is. Which is why she's a bit glad Yusei stepped in to essentially scare him off. ]
... I think you scared him.
[ All of this being said with such a deadpan tone. ]
no subject
[As he's found out himself. Yusei shrugs.]
He'll get over it.
[The man handles dragons. Yusei's sure he's got thicker skin that that.]
no subject
[ ... Works for her, apparently. And she has nothing to really say to that aside from: ] Okay.
[ She's apparently easily pleased and does not care a lot. ]
no subject
That matter aside, you might want to at least give some thought about where you want to go. At the very least, it'll give you a better idea of what services you want to try.
no subject
[ She is a simple girl, of few words and few needs, and thus she only really cares about the necessities: namely, sleep, fishing, and looking at the stars. She does very little else, friend. So all these flashy attempts at getting her attention are ... falling on deaf ears. They're interesting for the moment, but not something she needs to continue to be involved in. ]
I don't know.
[ Yes, Cinnamon, that helps. ]
no subject
The longer Yusei stays here, the more he wonders if either place is truly better than the other.]I see.
[It's a lot to take in, isn't it?]
I've lived in both cities, so if you want I can try and give a more concise description of them both.
no subject
She perks up a little at his offer, though. She's ... a little glad for it, considering trying to get anything of substance out of the flashy things she's been shown hasn't worked. ]
Yes, please.
[ Maybe she'll have the ability to choose if he gives an easy description. ]
no subject
Mmn, well...Olympia's the kind of place you'd go to if you like a big, bustling city. It's huge, they have the latest technology there, and there's all sorts of resources to help you get started, if you're not sure where to go. The biggest places are the research lab, the marketplace, and the Sanctuary, I think...
[It's been a while since he's lived there, but he's pretty sure that's how it is.]
Wyver's the sort of place if you'd rather fend for yourself. It's basically a jungle climate inside a canyon, so it's not quite as easy to navigate as Olympia...the people there are warm and competitive, though, and it's much less formal over there. It's rougher, but if that's your style, you'd be fine there, too.
[It's concise, but is that really enough information to go on? Yusei's not sure.]
Any questions?
no subject
She wants to be able to fish, and she's not sure if a city-like place would have something like that. She also wants to be able to see the stars, and that's also something that might be difficult in a city with a lot of lights.
... But she's also not particularly good at taking care of herself. Her family has always done most of the chores. So maybe the city would be better? ]
... Which one do you like?
[ She still looks clearly unsure. ]
no subject
[He smiles a little wryly, but his expression soon becomes pensive.]
...I'm not sure. I came to Olympia first because it was closer, but it reminds me too much of...a certain city back home to be comfortable with it. At the same time, it was much easier for me to work on my bike - [he pats the machine he's still sitting on ruefully] -over there, what with the abundance of technology. Considering what I do for a living, it'd make sense for me to live over there, but...
[He frowns.] My friends live in Wyver. They can't go back to Olympia. And I'd rather not be in a place that would so easily shun them for little reason.
[In the end, he can only sigh a bit, before the hesitant smile comes back to his face.]
It's not like Wyver doesn't have its good sides as well. But I'm starting to see that the feud between both these cities can bring out the worst in them.
no subject
So, she abruptly makes her decision, with a surprising amount of confidence and determination in her voice (which is still only a small bit, but it's more than is usually there). ]
... I choose Wyver.
[ Because his talk about his friends has swayed her. She doesn't want to deal with that sort of stuff herself. Maybe Candy and her grandpa will also like Wyver, when they wake up. It's not like she can't just up and leave to follow them to Olympia, either. She's up and left someplace before. ]
no subject
You sure? Wyver has its own problems too, you know.
[He wants you to think on your own. If that's really the conclusion you've come to, then...it's fine.]
no subject
I'm sure.
[ Again, she can just leave if it doesn't have the things she wants! And her fishing and star observing are the activities most important to her. She'll just ... have to ... figure out how to survive on her own. That's all.
(Having to make decisions on what to do with her life without her family around is hard.) ]
no subject
[He tilts his head.]
Wyver's really a place where you're meant to fend for yourself, so if you're having a hard time getting settled, I'll be around to help.
[Recent events have drilled the thought that whatever he does is useless and not worth the trouble. But he has to try something, right? He can't sit back and do nothing.]
no subject
She appreciates all his help, though. And his promise for it in the future. ]
... Thank you.
[ Is that a smile? Wow she smiled. ]
My name's Cinnamon.
[ When you want to know someone's name, it's better to tell yours first. ... Right? ]
no subject
Yusei.
[His own smile is a little more genuine, this time.] Well met.
no subject
She gives a small nod in response to that. ] Yusei ... [ Just ... repeating his name so she doesn't forget it.
And then: ] ... How do I get to Wyver?
[ That is. Something she should figure out. ]
no subject
You follow that, you'll get there. It's quite the hike, though, so you probably don't want to go it alone. I know some of the natives are helping people who decide to go to Wyver get there.
[A pause.]
I'm also giving rides- [he motions to the cart] -but it's slower than flying, I'll admit.
no subject
So ... she'll go ahead and ask. ]
... Can I have a ride? [ A pause. ] Walking is a pain.
[ Especially if it's as far as it sounds. ]
no subject
[He'll nod, though.]
Like I said, I'll give rides to whomever needs it - I'll be waiting until this little event starts wrapping up so I can take as many people as I can, though. You should take the chance to snag some food for the journey, or anything else that catches your fancy. It could save you some money in the long run.
no subject
[ About it being bumpy. It's still way better than walking, okay!!
But she smiles again. ] ... Thank you. I'll do that.
[ She is a bit hungry ... and buying some food here might be a good idea. Hopefully she can buy the right thing and not zone out in the process. ]
no subject
[Well at this point when you have nothing to start out with...buying anything is better than nothing...right?]
