( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

Missing tea, are we?
[But she tugs out her pocketwatch anyway (because it might not be 1910, but by god she'll live like it is) and peers down at it.]
Ten past one. Why?
no subject
ten past one.
in lieu of answering why, she holds out her phone, its clock stating that it's five past one. ] I didn't expect it to start malfunctioning quite this quickly. [ she adds, a moment later. surely that's the explanation, right? ]
no subject
[Five minutes isn't a lot of time, but it's a great deal when it's missing time.]
The Natha aren't incompetent, and they aren't in the habit of breaking things, not like this. So. What might be happening? Either you're losing time in some way . . . possibly you're displaced, possibly time is simply freezing for you . . . or it's nothing to do with you, but the area from which you came. Where were you before now?
no subject
Just down the road.
[ she's just a college student, isn't she? so she looks a little wide-eyed. ] Time freezing? Is that really an option?
no subject
[She says it breezily.]
That being said, it typically only occurs in black holes . . . but this universe doesn't entirely operate on typical scientific laws. But let's try the former theory first, shall we? Keep looking at your watch and head back over there, and then back to me.
no subject
[ it seems very akin to the scientific method — or some cousin of it, at any rate, because walking back and forth hardly seems like a controlled trial. which may be part of why roxy doesn't yet move. ]
no subject
[She glances over. Somewhat pointedly:]
Yourself?
no subject
[ roxy offers a small smile. ]
I'm a history student.

iii. before the ride
Isn't it wonderful?
[It's so nice to see someone appreciate the animals. Of course it's rough, finding oneself on a new planet and all - but there are so many things to enjoy, too.]
The plant life around here is lovely too, but I have to admit I'm especially fond of the animals.
no subject
but she won't admit to how systematic her study of the network has been. wouldn't, even if he'd asked, which he hasn't. instead, she smiles. ]
I never thought I'd see a pegasus. Never thought they were anything but fiction.
no subject
Oh - but mostly for the better!
[... It's a well-intended qualification, but probably not very reassuring.]
no subject
[ of course she catches that— and no, it isn't entirely reassuring. it would be more reassuring if she hadn't read of all the things going wrong. of kidnappings and of spiders calling out people's names in the forest. ]
no subject
[The fun of the surprise isn't always all that fun, he's come to find. It's not usually terrible, but it can be uncomfortable and/or unpleasant.]
For example: getting in water that makes you aggressive, or being bitten by a bug that makes you... [Quick, what's a polite word for it?] ... cuddly.
no subject
[ roxy's eyebrows rise and she shifts her weight a little until she's facing him more fully, but she doesn't stop petting the pegasus' neck for even a moment. she'd like to think the animal would complain if she did. ]
That doesn't sound so bad.
no subject
[Which is about as much as he cares to explain. Getting cuddly for some reason or other had hardly been his worst experience, but it's... embarrassing. For that matter: it's happened far too often...]
Things aren't usually dangerous or even bad, but I would recommend a little caution. With food and drinks, as well! Those are usually labeled pretty clearly, though.
[Usually.]
no subject
[ she has every intention of being cautious, but he doesn't need to know that. in fact, she'd prefer it if he didn't actually realise just how much thought she's already put into this place, how much research. she's just a college student from england, after all.
a beat, and then: ] Have you ridden one of these before?

by campfire's glow
You'd think I know more ghost stories by the amount of campfires I've sat by but I never heard them during the war... I guess reality was scary enough.
[ He wonders if she remembers him and adds: ] Long time no see... Nice suit. [ He's never seen a woman in one like hers, not without a skirt anyway. ]
no subject
[ roxy asks quite promptly. she's interested, of course: as a history student, as a kingsman. only one of those she'd mention if pressed on the matter.
but — ] Ah. I'm afraid I don't remember anything from my previous time awake. [ and for a moment, her lips press together, displeased. it isn't something she's entirely come to terms with yet. ]
no subject
The first one. [ And his brow raises hearing she doesn't remember anything, let alone meeting him. Diana warned him this would happen. ] We only met the once at a gala. You saved me from getting champagne all over myself. [ Have an amiable smile as he re-introduces himself. ] Steve Trevor, Miss Morton.
no subject
A pleasure, Mr Trevor. Again, I suppose.
[ she smiles, holding out her hand to him even though he already knows her. it's kind of him, though, to be so good-natured about it. ]
Should I be glad there's no champagne around here?
no subject
I promised myself that wouldn't happen again. I almost ruined a perfect suit... and you seem to know all about those. [ Judging by what she's wearing - excellent tailorship. ]
no subject
Eggsy, if you know him.
no subject
We've not met. [ But he knows of him. A friend of "Alan". ]
no subject
( even amongst the refugees. but she doesn't verbalise that thought. )
