( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES

still, she owes her a bow. it's probably what she had been bothering the woman about as they tread through the lonely road. ]
— Besides, I doubt I could be killed by your spear if you tried, but I liked that bow, you know --
[ before she can finish her sentence, the storm cloud manifests right over her, pouring rain all over her person. she's drenched within seconds; she couldn't get this way if she jumped in a body of water herself! through her rain, which she tries to step out of but to no avail, she can see the smile, which only irritates her. zero reaches out to grab her by the arm, attempting to pull her into the rain. ]
Come here, you —!!!

until disaster strikes, of course. judith dances lightly out of the way, smiling broadly. ]
Oh no, I don't think so.
no subject
zero misses the woman entirely as she tries to reach for her, and tries it again and again, eventually chasing her. the cloud seems completely contempt with staying on her, but it widens ever so slightly, as though to capture the other woman also. ]
This-- this has got to be a joke!
no subject
she gasps in surprise, but it's followed soon after by a bright laugh. ]
That's cold.

He folds his arms over his chest and cups his chin in thought, if only briefly. ]
Well, I’ve been here for a while now, and I’ve always lived in Olympia, myself. [ Don’t mind him wincing a bit here--] ...even if it’s been a little chaotic lately.
[ Trust him. This kid knows a thing or two about chaos. ]
I’m not sure Wyver’s faring any better at the moment, though.
no subject
[ judith arches a brow, and crosses her arms loosely over her abdomen while she regards him. ]
What's been chaotic?

Really, the whole social and political climate here is pretty tense anymore, no matter where you go.
[ "Pretty tense", he says. Like riots, looting, and half the noble's district being razed to the ground counts as just "pretty tense". ]
no subject
thankfully he doesn't have much of a poker face, so she can measure the weight of his words well enough, even if she doesn't know exactly what it is that he's referring to. a crease appears in her brow, and judith sighs. ]
I don't suppose there's a convenient third option?

... I agree.
[Very unfortunate. He sighs. Here he is, a typical wet cat - and yet he has no energy to even get annoyed about any of this. At least they didn't both get wet...]
We should keep going. Who knows where it's going to happen next?
no subject
Yes. You might want to walk on this side of the road, however.

"what do you think"?
it's a fairly general question, he supposes. both sides, as with any tale, had their pros and cons. also their areas of cohesion, and places of complete separation. but, still, he gives a thoughtful hum. ] I suppose I've already set my decision in stone.
Have you had any issue? [ but, it's here a few other citizens crop up. attempting to show them things, or offer a pint of blood for them, and he can only give an almost tired smile, before simply waving a hand. he guesses if there was any problems, it's probably this. ]
no subject
Issues? No, not really.
[ she's hardly been here long, after all, and she knows little enough about life in either of the cities on a personal level. still, she's not the sort to ever choose to set anything in stone, really. ]
What have you chosen?
no subject
an answer that only elicits more questions. but, then again, judging by her seemingly carefree stance, perhaps... she simply was just that sort of character. a thought that briefly crosses his mind, before he pockets it. ]
Olympia. [ he had actually decided on the station. finding more areas of cohesion of the worlds he's known and that one. not exactly, but he supposed it was closer than wyver had been. though for... achieving solitude, the latter may have been more ideal. but, perhaps that's exactly why it couldn't be a valid option. such concepts were unbefitting to a hero, after all. still it's because he does understand ... this principle desire that he seems to take her lack of commitment in stride. ]
I've heard many have become accustomed to camping. [ if that's your thing... ]

Judith's words make her perk a brow, whether she remembers her (oh god idk if you wanna use TDM canon), she's decked out in nimble armor and wearing a seriously nice helmet with her ~dragoon armor~. Her lance in her hand, she's instructing a few men to keep watch on the south border leading to Wyver, but — ]
I think it's wishful thinking to believe there's a difference.
[ As optimistic as she can be, right now she's not it. ]
no subject
anyway, sweet helmet there, dragon lady, too bad it can't relieve her dilemma. planting a hand on her hip, judith sighs and turns away from the throngs of people offering up their kindly bribes. ]
Surely there are more than two to choose from?
[ what kind of planet only has two cities, anyway?? ]

She's passing next to the tall woman when suddenly, there's a sound like a very mild thunderclap above her, and the next thing she knows, she's drenched. It pulls a very undignified squawk from her-- a sudden cloudburst? The sky hadn't been that cloudy, so--
--no, it's just raining. On her.
The indignity of getting soaked aside, Diana raises her wand, pointing it up in the air and muttering an incantation; an angled shield of light shimmers into being, deflecting the rain off to the side of the road.
This lets her study the phenomenon, at any rate.] A little, yes. [She remarks, to the woman next to her. She takes a step forward, and the cloud moves with her.] ...fascinating, though.
no subject
judith is bemused though, a smile tugging at one corner of her mouth. she can't really help, but she can.. stand by and make commentary, for sure. ]
I suppose so. I'm assuming this isn't normal?

It feels like a metaphor taken entirely too literally.

Dylas doesn't want to be here. He's just walking back to Olympia. His companion? Coincidental. Up until now, he's made no efforts to talk to Judith. But then there's a "that's unfortunate" and he figures an introduction in order.
He's soaked. He has a furry tail and a mane of hair. It's only fair that one moment he's dead quiet and the next he's shaking himself dry. That's a fair bit of splash all for Judith herself, especially since the rain is still bouncing off of him.]
Oh. Whoops. I forgot you were there.

( she's more or less picked a side (more of a place to live than anything) yet watching the desperate spiels of both sides has not impressed her much. it's understandable for the cities to invite new citizens and all that might entail, yet considering the animosity between them the sell came across a little too harsh. )
It does not hurt to take advantage of their wanton generosity, however, especially if you are new to El Nysa.
