( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.

peter
They're not far from the harbor, judging from the frequent reminders from the staff on board. And if her excitement for today isn't palpable from her expression alone, her tone certainly gives way to it. ] Thank you for not spoiling your appetite by eating the food here, Peter. [ Juvia is, of course, referencing the second thing she said to him before boarding the train (the first being 'thank you', along with an unintentionally aggressive hug). ] Juvia can't wait for you to eat the lunch she made for you!
[ Her obnoxiously large sunhat rests on her lap, with the added (domestic bliss inspired) picnic basket she went ahead and placed on Peter's. She gives an idle pat on his hand before letting it settle there-- it's as much affection as she can let herself have on the train before their outing really starts. ] You will love it.

Peter is trying desperately to find the balance that he's lacked since waking up from stasis. it's hard to shake what happened at the Sanctuary, and... after... . . but, he's working on it, however sluggishly. he can't hide from life forever, not when inexplicably he's been given a second shot at it. that meant dragging himself out of his room and trying to hold onto the connections he had.
which was a bit of a refreshing change, to hold onto what he could stand to lose, when Peter's normal reaction was to forcibly eject so he could control the process. That said, he was perhaps not amazing at actually executing this slightly more healthy emotional response.
Peter is not quite the company he usually is (and is he great company to begin with? jury is out on that), a bit lost in the scenery flying past the window as Juvia talks to him, though her touch draws his attention back. holding hands might have normally made him needlessly nervous, but right about now it's a nice connection to the moment he's in. an anchor Peter is more than willing to hold onto. he glances her way instead of the window. ) Knowing you, there's probably enough picnic for ten in there. ( which is all the more reason not to eat beforehand... even his appetite will be challenged by Juvia's general idea of an appropriate serving. the mild teasing is said with obvious fondness, though, even if it's not as playful as usual. ) This train is weird, huh? Reminds me of the subway in New York.
( there's not a lot of modern reminders in this world, which makes the high-speed train feel even more out of place. )

She gives a tender squeeze to his hand, a small expression of how willing she is to act as that anchor. And while the action gives her enough time to actually catch on to his teasing, she still responds as seriously as ever. ] Juvia can assure you there's only enough picnic in there for two. [ There's a pout aimed towards him, her next words sounding suspiciously like a fact rather than a promise. ] No one will ruin our date today.
[ Truthfully, it's nice to see him like this, all considering there has been some differences in him— some obvious, and other's subtle. With how naturally obsessive Juvia can be, noticing any kind of change in behavior isn't too far of a stretch. And while not feeling directly responsible for the influence on Peter, she does feel like it's her duty to take care of him when she can. But there's only so much she can think of, or do. Their long distance makes it infinitely harder and she's, truthfully, one more grueling re-entry process of Wyver or Olympia away from building a cabin in the woods and living by herself just to be closer. ]
Trains are normal for Juvia.. even if she never traveled by them. [ Although, it is strange. She honestly thought they would've had something like this already. ] Did you take the subway often? Or did you walk everywhere?

You got me enough food at the gala to feed a football team. Are your portions smaller during a picnic for two? ( he does not doubt, however, that there will be no interruptions or distractions during their time together. that tone brokers no argument, and considering he is still working on getting out in the social world again, he does not mind that it will be just the two of them. in fact, he honestly prefers it. )
Really? Never? ( why is that? she had never felt the need to travel, or had some other way to do it? as for him, trains had been a way of life in the city, at least, they had been once. ) When I was younger, sure. After I got bit, I... You know. ( the only other occupants of their traincar are at the far end and speaking in hushed tones, yet Peter still feels stuck under his curtain of excessive secrecy.
just in case she doesn't catch his meaning, though, he mimes web-slinging. after their dangerous descent from the mountain, Juvia surely has some idea of what that means. )

[ If this were the real thing, a real date, Juvia certainly wouldn't be as lax about everything as she is, now. She probably would've started sweating from the sheer anxiety of it all once she caught sight of him. This is just something for the both of them, something suitably private but public enough to enjoy the atmosphere. ]
Well, we had other ways to travel in Fiore. If you want a comparison.. Wyver would be the closest. [ All the Magical Mystical flying and ground mounts, she means. There's still a lot to enjoy about a train, though, even if it is fairly plain in comparison. Peter's show of web-slinging is definitely one of those things. He didn't have to elaborate, but it still warms her heart that he did. ] Ah.. [ It's throws a satisfied smile on her face, knowing that there's something he shared with her not many people would be aware of— like the people opposite to them. ]
Yes, Juvia knows. [ Web-slinging, while stressful, does have more pros than cons. Like, for example, holding onto him for dear life for long periods of time. Does she remember it? Absolutely not, but knowing she clung to him does make her sigh fondly. ] How much you did you train to get that good at it?

If I could pick something cooler than a train, I definitely would. ( even as an overly proud new yorker, the second he had an option that was more fun than standing in a usually smelly, dark and loud subway car, Peter had picked it almost every time. then again, maybe that just said more about how thrill-seeking he was, and less about wanting a cooler way to get around.... . . . . . .
it is still strange, in theory, to talk about his powers. still, having that shared secret with Juvia makes it easier. it's not the first time they've talked about it, and it seems to feel more normal every time. ) A little while. My first try jumping from a building, I totally destroyed the table settings on a few outdoor tables. ( why he had jumped off a building on his first time webslinging is a very good question. ) It got easier fast, though. My senses usually warn me before I hit something.
( emphasis on usually... )
