( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.

[ Duo is almost thankful that this planet has yet to have a lot of electrical lighting. It had always struck him as a shame that Earth's stars, the moon, the Milkyway - were always so obscured by smog and light pollution when he was plant side. Maybe it was the spacer in him, the kid born out there among the stars, but it just wasn't as magical when the stars weren't so bright, hidden behind haze and blinking as they were obscured by other moving objects and weather happenings.
Which is what draws him away from camp, hands tucked away in his pockets as he picks where to go both to be away from the crowd and stargaze a little.
He spots out another figure easily enough, nodding a silent hello with a small, maybe slightly apologetic smile. ]
Yeah, it does. And they haven't ruined the view with too many lights yet which makes it even better..
no subject
A sigh,] I don't recognize any of them. If only I had a star map.
[El Nysa must be far beyond the known parts of the universe.]
no subject
I don't either, so don't feel bad. [ Granted, he's never even left the Milky Way either, so there's always that. He may have been born in space but so far as traveling in it Earth and Space had spent too much time wrapped up in fighting each other to do much exploring.
He leans against a tree, hands still tucked in to his pockets as he joins her in looking up. ]
The Natha might have a star map, though. If you're real keen on that.
no subject
Her face brightens at his suggestion, though.] You’re right! I will have to inquire on that the next time we are on board their ship.
[It’s a shame she doesn’t have her own ship’s star map to compare it to, but she might yet be able to glean an impression of where El Nysa’s galaxy lies in relation to everything else she knew.]
no subject
Let's hope that they've got something you might recognize, then. [ He tries to keep it positive even though the thought occurs to him that they likely won't be able to glean much of anything from it. After all, the Natha were great and all, but they also tended to prefer to be mysterious and the whole lot, too, in their own ways.
It was more like how Wufei preferred to be serious as opposed to Heero's blunt silences - one was a bit of a rule breaker and did what he wanted by his own terms, the other -
Well, just offered 'i'll kill you' quite often. ]
Gonna have to ask for one of those myself if I'm going to be piloting a lot more, now. Should need a grasp of the systems and all before I'm out there flying around... [ He laughs, an inside joke maybe. ] Now if only I could convince 'em to make a space colony.
Then I'd maybe be right at home.
no subject
Piloting? [That catches her interest, and she turns to look at him,] I wasn’t aware this planet had much in the way of… advanced travel. [That’s a polite way to put it. From what she gleaned in the expo on board the ship, the civilization of this planet was still quite a ways off from flight, let alone space travel.]
no subject
Ah.. no one down here planet side has flying anything other than dragons.. [ Duo corrects himself with a little bit of a laugh, hand reaching back to bury in that thick braid of hair. ] Or, well, people like me with their own space-worthy stuff...
[ Again avoiding the word gundam just in case - Allura may not know what one is, but frankly he wouldn't be bothered if she continued not to know. It's his own little paranoia that refused to give in, it would seem. ]
The Natha have most of the advanced tech. Down here on the planet they think magic is the best thing and it's pretty.. er.. rudimentary at best sometimes.
no subject
As long as she doesn't have to drink dragon blood, like she was reading about.]But you are a pilot! [Allura's voice perks up at that, it's less of a question and more an excited statement. Something they have in common.] And your ship is here on the planet? It survived the storm?
[Since the storm hit, she'd seen no hint of the Blue Lion, nor any of the other lions of Voltron. Surely they were strong enough to survive the storm, but she'd been too afraid to ask Keith about it when they first met.]
no subject
[ Duo nods, a bit bemused with her reaction to that news if his expression is anything to go by. Maybe it's because so many people on his home world know how to pilot a mobile suit if not a shuttle that it's not really something he finds to be remarkable. ]
I asked the Natha for it after I was here about six months and they allowed me.. [ Duo shrugs. He kind of leaves the details of his 'ship' out on purpose. No need to shock Allura with a Gundam verse style Voltron piloted by a single, small boy just yet. Plus, he thinks of Deathscythe as a bit of an ace up his sleeve should the need ever arise for that kind of thing. ]
I dunno what exactly I did to get that, but I'm not complaining..
no subject
[More or less. It's complicated. There’s a tension that seems to seep out of her that she didn’t know she’d been holding. It’s a relief to know that, even after a time, his ship was able to be returned to him. She suspected that if she could make it through the storm, surely Voltron could as well, but she'd still worried.] Perhaps it needed to undergo repairs? Kind of like how we came out of stasis.
[Her memories of the storm are still sparse, but according to Keith she’d been asleep for longer than she’d originally assumed.]
sorry for the delay!!
Yeah, you can earn it back so far as I can tell. There was also a situation... on planet a bit ago that might've helped..
[ How does one low key explain to a new person on the planet that he basically got captured and tortured without scaring them away from either city or spurring some weird pity party he didn't want? Probably just by calling it a 'situation' and letting her learn on her own if that's how she preferred it. ]
Well with how they describe the storm I wouldn't doubt it might... mine came through good as new, though.
Only thing it was missing was my stash of snacks but that ain't the end of the world. [ Mainly a loss of jerky and the lot, but nothing that's absolutely needed or irreplaceable. Duo's face turns back to the sky for a moment, scanning across the stars there as if something familiar might pop up no matter how many times he's done this and been unsuccessful. ]
What I wouldn't give to see the Milky Way from space again, though.
No worries! I've been vaguely slow all over the board too!
[That's a huge relief though. She is too busy considering how she might ask to check up on Blue to really catch any of the ominous tone that surrounded the vagueries of the situation. Perhaps she should ask Keith about it, though, then again, that might be a complicated topic...
Mentally returning to the conversation,] I had wanted to visit your solar system at some point. After the war. [Ah... but all of that is gone now. Her expression turns sympathetic. She knows what it's like to lose, not just your home, but your whole solar system.]
Perhaps parts of it are still out there.
no subject
Ah.. you had a war out in space too, then? [ Seems to be a common thing for people. War happened everywhere, which is simultaneously encouraging and yet not. ]
That'd be great but I ain't holding my breath about it.. Reaching and pining for things that are probably gone isn't gonna help with moving on so I try not to linger too much.
