( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.

Fire and Blood
"Of course they are. Um...why wouldn't they be volunteers? You get paid for competing, especially if you win."
no subject
The idea of fighting like this was strange, but different from what he usually had been drawn to.
"Are you part of the fighting ring?"
no subject
Her people are warriors, and it's true that she was bullied and shamed for having a more peaceful and timid nature than most of her peers, but not once has she ever been forced to fight.
"I'm not one of the people who runs it, but I compete in it regularly."
Which might seem a bit odd given her diminuiative stature. Kale doesn't exactly look intimidating.
no subject
It doesn't matter how small she was. In hearing that, she reminded him of Arya. If his sister were awake, she would likely do the same thing.
"What do you think of it? Competing in the ring?" She could at least give him insight.
no subject
Alive, thankfully, but like so many others, she hasn't awakened yet. There's no point in dwelling on what she can't change, though.
"I like the competition. I think if more people channeled their violent instincts into competition rather than attacking and hurting others, the world would be a better place."
no subject
Which was more than he usually said to strangers, but it was safe to say such things now. He didn't know her, only that she was offering him kindness.
"It's a fair compromise, your skills are honed and you're treated with respect, as a warrior. The fighting, it isn't to the death?" He asked, glancing over at her.
no subject
Some of the hostile behaviour from Wyvern and Olympian locals toward various refugees had somewhat soured Kale's view on aligning herself in such a decisive way with one community or the other.
"None of the ones I fight in are to the death. The rules vary a little in each place, but it's always something like winning by knocking the other fighter unconscious, if one of the fighters gives up, if one of the fighters is thrown out of the ring, or if one of the fighters is down for ten seconds."
She paused for a moment. "There might be illegal fighting rings where the fights are to the death, but I don't think that's allowed in the legal ones. It's better if there's a chance for a rematch, isn't it? Kinder and more interesting, too."
no subject
He shared her sentiment, having viewed Olympia as a makeshift home for awhile, only to realize that it didn't means as much to him as he hoped. Neither did Wyver. Their reasons for offering aid to the refugees only came down to their altruistic nature. Something that could easily change as the riots showed. He didn't feel a need to fight for either kingdom.
"That seems fair." Not even to first blood. It was better than the melees that were held in the North or the tourneys in the South. "The weapons are real though?" They looked real from here, but he wasn't paying much attention.
"It is. This serves a purpose rather than being for blood sport. It's training."
no subject
To this day, Kale was hoping that the man was too embarrassed to report it as an assault. She did still visit Olympia now and then, even if she'd been gravitating more toward Wyvern lately.
"I think they're blunted, but I don't participate in the weapons matches. I fight in the matches for people with special abilities, and in the hand to hand matches."
She smiled at his assessment of the purpose of the fighting rings. "That's how I feel about it, too. The best way to learn how to fight once you've learned the basics is to gain experience."
no subject
"Special abilities? You mean magic?" He was lacking in hand to hand, more comfortable with a sword in his hand than anything else. Though, it at least offered an option for him and a chance to train more.
"It seems to be a bit more fair than I thought it would be." But after the sudden shift of the guard, he wasn't certain he wanted to trust in an organization again. He wanted simply to earn coin doing whatever he was best at. Sadly, that was fighting. "How are the rewards? Fair?"
no subject
"I...guess some people might call it magic? It's ki - life force energy. Every living thing has at least a little bit of it, and some warriors from where I'm from can train with it, and make it stronger."
Just as a small demonstration, she produces a small little glowing ball in the palm of her hand for him to look at. If he touches it, he'll feel a tingly sensation, but such a small amount of ki won't hurt anyone. This is also a small enough amount that it won't distract anyone who wants to focus on the fight.
"They are. Better if you win, and especially if you're a regular that people like to watch...but even if you're brand new and you lose, it's still fair pay."
no subject
"Life energy force? So they are wielding their souls?" It's the sort of magic that Melisandre might prefer, given her talk of how there was power in each of them. It didn't make much sense in his head, much like this ki, but he had yet to see its power in the same way he had experienced the Red Woman's.
He jolts at the sudden ball of light. It takes a moment for his apprehension to die down. Hesitantly, he touched the light, curious to what he might feel or experience. It was nothing more than a tingle, a tickle against his fingers.
"What can you do with this?"
no subject
She's never really sure if she's explaining it right to people, but she's never studied it on an intellectual level. She learned how to wield it during her training, and knew it existed before she even learned that much, and that was all the thought she'd ever devoted to it.
"I can hit someone with it and it can feel like a punch, or a battering ram, or even completely destroy people or things if enough energy is used...but I don't use it for killing, so more the first two things. I can use it to fly without wings...and I can make myself about about fifty times stronger with it for a short time."
no subject
It didn't matter how she explained it. These concepts were a bit beyond him. Even the Melisandre's powers slipped beyond his understanding. He knew that it was strong magic and the reason he was standing, but the nature of it, how it was created and why, he didn't know. These sorts of mysteries were better suited for others. He was only a man that knew how to swing a sword.
"Fly?" She has his interest at least. "Would you show me how you use it in battle?"
no subject
People were yelling enough that a little bit of conversation between observers who didn't have a front row seat was hardly a distraction, but any further demonstration of her abilities than a little glowing ball would be more disruptive. She has enough respect for her fellow warriors and for the people who come to watch that she doesn't want to bother anyone.
"Oh...maybe this would be a good time to introduce myself? My name is Kale."
no subject
The crowd was rowdy and any further demonstration or action might rile them up further. He could appreciate her caution. Speaking with her had at least eased his mind about the fighting pits. This wasn't Westeros or the Free Cities. Any man who fought here could be respected and treated by a certain code. It might not be actual honor, but that code would ensure their safety.
"I'm Jon Snow. Maybe we could have a match someday, Kale?"
no subject
How they managed it, Kale had no idea, but it was good that it was there - and a wise business investment. People would hesitate to attend the matches as a spectator if there was a risk of getting hurt, and it would be expensive to constantly have to repair property damage.
"That would be fun, Jon Snow. Do you know Diana from the Guard? She's been training me with weapons, but I'm not very good with them yet."
no subject
