( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

[Never? Never sounds good.]
Of course! Seeing as you're more familiar with this than I, I suppose that means I'm in your care.
no subject
So. That's up to his discretion. c:
Seeing as Urbosa knows practically every grain of sand that makes up the Gerudo Desert, she's well aware of the locations of the various statues dotting the landscape.
And it just so happens that one of them - within reasonable distance, although with Naboris approaching at speed it might be cutting it close - has an old, battered shield that's certainly seen better days.
GET MOVING, CHUMP. Keep up or she's leaving your ass behind okok. ]

I'm not sure what your plan is-- but these closed spaces are typically smaller than they appear. [This isn't the first memory he's been tossed into, after all. Though this one does seem a bit larger than usual... probably because it has to include the goddamn camel mecha inside.] There should be an edge, so to speak. A point where we'll quite literally hit a wall.
If we can find that edge, I have the means of returning us to reality.
no subject
Buying time is necessary first. If Naboris draws too close... [ She shakes her head, wordlessly. No need to paint a picture of what kind of unpleasantness will occur should that happen. ] Well. It need not come to that.
[ As one of the statues comes into sight - shield cradled in stone arms, just as she remembers it - there's a second welcome figure there too. Namely the spherical beast lounging in the sand, a domesticated sand seal with harness and rope ready to go.
Urbosa immediately pulls the antique shield from the statue and drops it on the sand by the seal, followed by her own (when did that get here?) right next to it. She gestures towards the shields with a flick of one hand, already starting towards the sand seal to get preparations underway. ]
Get on. Let's put your reflexes to the test, hmm?
no subject
[But honestly? He can tell something bizarre and awesome is probably about to happen, so he has no complaints (even if he's totally going to eat sand just u wait).]
Shall I assume I'll be learning as I go here?
no subject
Exactly. Think fast.
[ Which is about all the warning he's gonna get before she grins and snaps her fingers
kraaaaak-BOOM.
Startled by the lightning called down not ten paces away, the seal immediately takes off... and Mephisto with it, probably. SHIELD SURFING MINIGAME GO. ]
no subject
[But he can tell what's coming as soon as he sees where the harness is going. But what he doesn't expect is the sheer amount of speed coming out of... a seal?? In the sand??]
[This is it, this is the moment it finally sinks in that he's playing a goddamn mini-game in a Legend of Zelda game. The lightning behind them is loud and frightening, but is nowhere on par with the laughter that falls from Mephisto's lips. You'd think he doesn't have a care in the world! ...or that he might be a little more unhinged than he generally lets on.]
Hahahah! Such speed! How exhilarating! Now this is the way to travel!
[He's doing pretty well... for now. But they'll probably have to turn at some point, and that'll be a little trickier.]
no subject
lbr she'd laugh her ass off. He'll get about a minute or so to get comfortable with the seal's speed before Urbosa catches up - the rope wrapped tight around her forearm and fist for better control as she urges her sand seal to greater speeds. ]
Not bad for a beginner, and a voe at that! [ Urbosa calls out to him in a laughing tone, lazily carving a sinuous path through the sand to bleed off excess speed instead of overtaking Mephisto altogether. She's clearly done this a few times before. ]
You mentioned finding an "edge" of some kind, yes?
1/2
[It's a wonder the seal can pull him along with that fat ego of his weighing him down.]
And yes, that's right! It may be visible as a crack somewhere in the air-- or something that's terribly out of place, as if the force creating this world was unable to display it properly.
Of course, seeing as these creatures are part of the illusion, it's possible they may not be able to approach the edge on their--

[And when it does, Mephisto flails and immediately eats sand being dragged face-first by the seal as it effortlessly starts taking him in another direction. Still away from the divine beast behind them, but not the best route for actually escaping. And now, getting further away from where the "edge" must be.]
[But more importantly: after a few seconds of being dragged through the sand, Mephisto seems to disappear beneath the upper surface all together, the rope still tied in a lasso as it drags behind the seal! How mysterious!]
no subject
To say Urbosa's expression is 'deadpan' is seriously underselling it.
Still, she can't in good conscience allow him to dig a furrow several leagues in length through the desert with just his face, so Urbosa resigns herself to rescuing this
assholeeccentric voe for the time being. She's just in the act of steering her seal to pursue his, drawing her scimitar in her free hand in preparation to sever the rope pulled taut where it's still tied to his middle...Well. Until he simply isn't there anymore, in which case she'll settle for just looking completely baffled at the disappearing act. ]
What in the -
no subject
[And just as suddenly, Mephisto's voice can be heard from... in front of her?? And when she turns and looks, she'll find Mephisto -- balanced on the rope between herself and the sand seal like some kind of weightless tightrope walker. Aside from his clothing being rather out of sorts and his hair a mess, he looks fine.]
[But what the fuck tho?]
Did you have to tie that around my waist like that? I could have broken my back, you know!
no subject
Honestly, it's a mix of pure shock and the fact he'd just slow them down that she doesn't immediately give the rope wound around her fist and forearm a good flick to upset him from his perch.
Lucky you.]Apparently your balance needs work. You should've said earlier.
[ Don't sass her about getting your ass dragged, you chump. Git gud. ]
Still... it's strange that your seal turned aside like that. They're better trained than to roam without rhyme or reason.
no subject
Then perhaps it's as I said, and the edge of this illusion [He points in the direction they were headed before, which uh. Is gonna be home to the divine beast in a few minutes.] lies in the direction these seals dare not venture towards.
Of course, that's just a theory... but what do you say? Care to take a risky gamble?
no subject
Please. We Gerudo aren't frightened of taking risks.
[ Welp. Mephisto's balance apparently takes the backburner; Urbosa rocks her weight back and slightly to one side while tugging hard on the rope, executing a sweeping turn that kicks up a magnificent plume of golden sand in their wake.
Naboris is getting alarmingly close, though. There's a certain heaviness to the air, like before a thunderstorm, and there's a faint scent of ozone... ]
Better make this quick. We'll only have one shot.
no subject
[Cocky bastard. But at least he has the skills to back it up. He manages to keep his balance, floating alongside the ropes and watching the seal carefully for when it veers off to avoid the "wall" containing the illusion.]
[And it does -- but not before Naboris starts to close in on them, the air crackling as it prepares to rain lightning down upon them. But just before it strikes, the seal suddenly and sharply turns, and Mephisto takes that as his cue.]
[He stretches out his arm and waves his hand, counting off with an eins, zwei, drei... And in an instant, suddenly the world around them begins to shatter like a cracked picture frame, as hundreds upon thousands of small cuts slice through the air, the sand, and even Vah Naboris itself.]
[And as the illusion fades away, only Mephisto and Urbosa are left standing in the streets of Olympia, the world around them carrying on as if nothing happened.]
no subject
While they'd undoubtedly have been either struck by lightning or flattened under one of Naboris' gigantic feet, she can't help but feel a little melancholic at the last glimpse of the Divine Beast unfurling back into nothing. Ironic that the one thing to really cause homesickness is nearly getting murdered by a rogue camel mecha.
ANYWAY........ don't mind her as she casually dusts herself off. Nothing to see here. ]
Well. Glad that's settled.
