( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

[He shook his head though at the scene and decided to change the subject slightly.]
Girls are cruel though, huh? Or is that just sisters?
no subject
He sounds like an interesting fellow. [ Casually keeping that short so as to not give himself away. ]
Sisters can be the worst of it, aye. [ At least his sister has done more teasing than anyone else. ] Though I know some few from both sexes who hold a penchant for cruelty.
[ ... Really, he's just The Kid To Pick On ... ]
no subject
Ah yes, people are always cruel. If you go to a boy's school, it's just as bad. At least until you manage to find your own room.
[Yeah being a target of bullying is never fun. They seem to know you're a nerd right off.]
But let's see here... [He walks over to one of the walls and begins to feel it for a seem or something.] There has to be a way out of here.
no subject
Taking one last small glimpse at his younger sister — something he does more out of a fondness for her than anything — he moves over to here William has gone. ]
I agree. [ A pause, glancing around. ] I know these walls better than many. Allow me to help.
[ And he'll go ahead and scrutinize the walls near him. If there were any trap door or other such thing, he'd likely notice.
... And he does, when he sees a hairline crack, moving to look up close to it, a hand to his chin in thought. ]
no subject
I defer to you then.
[He nodded, watching. He pointed ears on his companion made William think of a demon, though he was clearly not, though he also had a fairness similar to angels. But he was definitely not that either. Curious how so many races could share certain features.
When Alphinaud fines the crack though, William runs his fingers along it.]
I wonder if it will come open on it's own, or with magic?
no subject
He watches William as he runs his fingers along it. It's definitely related to the way out of here, at least he can be sure of that. There was no crack like this in his childhood bedroom. ]
You are capable of magic?
[ He can never tell what people here can do and what things are like from their respective worlds. ]
no subject
Magic? Yes. Are you thinking of something in particular or just the less elegant solution of blasting it open? Because I am good with both.
[The seam doesn't feel physical so much as unnatural in nature, so that's probably going to be the only way.]
no subject
[ To ... make sure no one gets hurt. He doesn't know what's on the other side of this seam and it could very well be the real world and have people on the other side. ]
no subject
[But he's going press his fingers into the wall and after a moment decides to try and reach out with a slightly less destructive spell.]
Maybe I can just ask whatever it is to open up. [If there's a spirit or some intellect there perhaps...
Well okay he can't feel any real consciousness beyond the thoughts this force is drawing on to do this.] Maybe you can think about leaving here? That might help.
no subject
[ It seems strange, but seeing as it's his memory, it isn't outlandish that it might be connected to his mind. And if he thinks about leaving, it might work? So he ... closes his eyes and tries that. He feels incredibly strange about it but it's worth a shot.
... And after a few moments of nothing happening, he opens them again. ] I have a feeling that may not be our answer here.
[ And he flinches as he hears a whimpery shout from his younger self behind them. ] Mayhap it has something to do with the memory itself.
no subject
Though nothing happens, because of course it isn't that simple.]
Well then if there is something about the memory...
[He thinks a bit.]
Is this an exact replica of that memory. Or is there something different about it? I obviously have no way to guess.
no subject
... That is a good question. One which I ... admittedly cannot answer. This happened many summers ago.
[ He's hoping that's not the trick to getting out of here, shit. ]
I don't find anything to be out of place, at first glance, however.
no subject
Have you had any reason to feel nostalgic lately? To wish of a different time, when matters might have been less complicated?
I don't know for sure, I just imagine that this being yours means you have more of the cards.
no subject
[ Sure, he had good memories and all. But he's never really gotten stuck in wanting to go back to the past, not in the least. He's actually one to move on from the past and look to the future.
Though he does notice the crack in the wall opening up a bit more, suspiciously. ]
Ah — look.
[ Turning his attention to it. Maybe it's because the memory itself is coming to an end, providing an out. ]
no subject
[Though the crack opening up is a good sign and William tilts his head to examine it.]
Well that is heartening. Maybe one needs to just be patient in this place. How bothersome.
[It's slowly opening up, more and more.]
no subject
'Tis preferable to most alternatives, however.
[ The thing needing patience. He watches as it continues to open. He'd rather it eventually open to them than force them to look for some convoluted way out, or not let them out at all, or something. ]
no subject
I don't think it will be too long though...
[It actually seems to have sped up, as if it's pleased that they figured out the secret.]
But either way, it was a pleasure. And I won't mention this to anyone.
no subject
You have my thanks, truly.
[ He does sound fully relieved to hear that. ]
no subject
Everyone has something like this in their past, so gossiping about it is just cruel anyways.
[Really, he'd hate to think of it happening to him.]
no subject
If only others held that same philosophy.
no subject
Some people are just like that sadly. One just has to learn to be strong.
