( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

A slight tilt of his head at the phrasing, and his expression dims a little bit]
...it did, indeed. The less said of last month the better, I think.
[it will only sour both of their moods]
no subject
[So soft...Chuuya isn’t sure he’ll be able to stop petting this tiny creature until she decides she’s had enough.
Damn, he wishes he had some booze right now.]
It’s nice of you to help out the newbies. When I first arrived the ship I was on crashed into a swamp.
no subject
He doesn't need her at the moment, but he shall have to point out at some point that Lula hugs]
Into a swamp; goodness. I heard tell of people having to sneak into the city, too, I can't recall if the two were connected.
[he is grateful to have at least had a sedate arrival, though there was little fanfare to it.]
It seems the nice thing to do, to give them a fair welcome. [a brief glance around, seeing out Voss, though he is not known to the man] Hopefully it can be the start of a new tradition that involves all sides.
no subject
[Chuuya might just die from an overdose of cute if Lula hugs him.]
That’s a nice thought. Too bad they’re both locked in an eternal pissing contest, so they’re too busy to focus on real issues.
[Chuuya shrugs.]
I really don’t give two shits about Olympia or Wyver.
no subject
[he doesn’t sound exactly hopeful, though. He’s been here long enough to give up the hope of an easy resolution.]
I do dislike the idea of choosing - that one had to choose one faction or the other and those that don’t...
[a light shake of his head]
But this is still an unhappy subject, don’t you think?
no subject
[Okay, he can’t exactly keep griping when there’s an adorable llama to pet.]
Anyway, I’m living in Olympia for now.
[A hum as he ponders what to say that isn’t offensive or depressing.]
Do you know Atsushi?
no subject
As am I - whatever that means, indeed. I've a small house and I work for the Sanctuary...
[as much as he can - at least they are patient with him, given the current circumstance. But the familiar name makes him perk up a little and smile, nodding a little]
I do, yes. We have spoken over the network and-- I was able to visit his house, actually.
[it feels so long ago, he had almost forgotten.]
no subject
[Seems to be a common thing around Nysa, which is completely backwards from Chuuya’s own world. Healing abilities were exceptionally rare there, and prized nearly as much as incredibly destructive ones.]
Yeah? Then you might know Daifuku, his tiger cub.
[Yet another adorable miniature mammal.]
Luckily he let me move in.
no subject
[a little tip of his head, amused]
Ah, I didn’t see you when you visited. So it was Daifuku let you move in...?
no subject
[Chuuya chuckles at that.]
Heh, no. Atsushi. Though Daifuku really is spoiled rotten.
[The later it gets the more refugees filter in, and Chuuya can’t help but be a little envious of their warm welcome.]
You got any booze around here?
no subject
[a little chuckle in return at the man's laughter - Linneus won't say as much, but he is sure Atsushi had Daifuku's approval anyway.]
I've no drink personally, no, but I'm sure there is some to be found.
[they have a bonfire, and plenty of blankets, but there's still a little chill in the night air - and there is probably a stock of alcohol somewhere to stave that off.]
Would you like to look for some?
no subject
[Chuuya gives his answer instantly; he’s just a tiiiiiny bit eager to drink since he’d been deprived of it all day. The blanket is nice and warm, and Lula is super soft and adorable, but Chuuya is ready to search for his vice.]
You probably know this camp better than I do. Lead the way!
no subject
Well, marginally. We could try the food tent - I think that's the surest bet?
no subject
[Chuuya definitely notices the way Linneus seems to be moving slowly, but it’s not his place to question it, really. He’ll only intervene if it looks like the guy needs help.
More pats for Lula.]
Uh...where’s the food tent?
no subject
[near to where he got the blankets - there are two tents, one with essentials like blankets, sleeping bags and pillows, and one with the boxes of food and drink and cooking equipment. Easing the flap open and holding it there-]
Do you need very much from here? I'm afraid I can't take much and I haven't Lula's packs to help her carry...
no subject
Nah. This is all I need.
[He pops the cork with his teeth and spits it out before taking a swig straight from the bottle.]
Hmm. Not bad.
no subject
[and no glass...? Well, Linneus supposes they are camping. Drinking from the bottle must be part of it. A gentle call as she seems about to go for the cork-]
Lula, no.
[-and obediently, she leaves off, straightening and coming to his side with the warning.]
She still tries to eat some curious things...
no subject
[He’s just teasing. Lula is actually pretty well behaved.
He takes another sip before glancing down at the bottle, then back up at Linneus.]
Oh, did you want some?
[Chuuya please.]
no subject
She is. But she understands well enough when she is being told.
[it’s clear enough from the way that Linneus speaks of her that he thinks her the best, really. Smiling with the offer as they start back to the fires, shaking his head.]
Oh, no, it’s quite all right. I don’t really drink...
[his tolerance is... not the best. Far better to avoid alcohol entirely and save himself any potential embarrassments.]
no subject
[Chuuya doesn’t mind not sharing. More for him!
He’ll take it back over by the campfire so that they can sit and talk.]
So you got any roommates or anything? Seems to be a pretty common thing here.
no subject
[big enough for two to fit, but certainly nothing so extravagant as the mansion...!]
I was raised in a large one, though, in service there. There were always people around so it was an adjustment, coming here.
[his fingers ruffle at Lula’s neck, lightly scritching]
But the company helps, certainly.
no subject
[Thankfully Atsushi thought to invite him to live in the mansion, otherwise Chuuya would still be holed up in starter housing right now.
Chuuya reaches out to scratch Lula too, further spoiling the adorable llama.]
Were you a butler or something?
no subject
[a light chuckle as Lula whumps against the side of Chuuya's leg, leaning her weight up against him. A favourable reaction, if ever he had seen one.]
I did a little of everything, but they often set me to work in the gardens while I was small. A five-year-old can only manage so much, but if you make a game out of pulling up weeds and digging holes for seeds...
no subject
[Chuuya has a few strong opinions on shitty adults using children for labor or whatever else, but it is what it is. After being used as a weapon all his life, he supposes that pulling weeds isn’t the worst thing a child could be made to do.
He pets Lula again, fingers sliding through he llama’s soft fur.]
Back in my world I never would’ve been able to do half the stuff I can here. That true for you too?
no subject
[he can admit that much, without getting too into things. It was strange to adjust - just being able to have his own home, one that he could leave or come back to whenever he wanted. Finding his own work, being able to have his own time...]
So yes, I suppose that's true.
