A. The Sanctuary

[Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Fraser and Dr. Watson, Venom's expanded his knowledge on anatomy, first aid, and some level of bedside manner. He furthered his training through field work, reading books, studying potions and salves to an extent, and finally learning his first healing spells. He'd come a long way from being an assassin and knowing only how to treat the most fleeting of wounds. It's almost like he's a proper healer now, hence his decision to change jobs.

Meaning it's time for him to step out of the shadows.

He went through hell and back trying to do the same for the Guild, but to do it for himself is weird. Though he had planned on telling 2cave that he was going to protect the town before the storm hit. Maybe he's taking the steps to do that in his new home. Or maybe he's just overthinking everything again as he's organizing books and herbs for the more experienced healers.

For those who know Venom, his hair's tied back, save for his bangs.]

Pardon me, but I'm rather new here. Would these dried petals go with the dried herbs or elsewhere?

B. Tea Break - somewhere outside

[Between organizing and restocking supplies, Venom catches a breather. He'll be outside by a large tree, having the tea he packed along with a light lunch of fruit and cheeses. And by light he means a healthy wedge of the Olympian equivalent to brie. Maybe if someone drops by he'll share it with them!]

C. Wildcard

[Dealer's choice here! Maybe spot him helping with cleaning, or possibly lending a hand in the kitchen. Anything to help him prove his worth at his new job.]

I can see that being an issue. Growing up, I used to have a stricter diet. It was formulated for optimal health, with a lot of lean meats and vegetables. But it wasn't that exciting, either.

[And it's probably why he likes cheese so much. After so many years of eating healthy he likes to indulge in something rather fatty.]

Well, I wouldn't mind trying my hand at gardening, too. I used to take care of my Lord's roses when he was away on missions.

[He offers a smile at the request.]

If they'll allow it, I can make lunch for us in the near future.

I suppose it has to be bland by necessity, food for the sick. But there is no harm in trying to make it tempting...

[for Linneus it was some sort of sweetened rice pudding they had managed to persuade him to take a few mouthfuls of, once he was healed enough. A simple enough food, but in that moment nothing had tasted better]

...that would be lovely. Perhaps you could bribe the kitchens?

I rarely get sick, but when I do, I prefer more flavorful things that help me feel better. Unless it's a stomach bug. Then it's nothing more than soda water and whatever medicine I was prescribed.

[Illness was treated quickly in his world, save for a handful of diseases. It helped that the Guild had some of the best doctors in the world.]

Or I could ask them. Are they difficult to persuade?

Not difficult, no. But I think there's no harm in sweetening the deal with a little of something you made...

[The main kitchen took care of most of what they needed in the Teahouse, but the courtesans had their own. Mostly they used it for tea, but occasionally Rory took it over for his baking endeavours, leaving a little of his creations for them as if to make up for the inconvenience.

Linneus tends to eat little, and is not the type to be bribed by food, but the gesture he can appreciate.]

( He's not forward thinking enough for that. He hardly even remembers to grab himself some breakfast before taking care of his kitten and heading out the door. If Venom's stomach hadn't rumbled, Anders probably would have looked a little more sheepish about it. Instead, he just lets a tiny smile touch his features. )

I usually eat whatever they have in the kitchen. I take it you didn't bring anything either?

I didn't bring anything today. I wanted to see what our options were in the kitchen. I'm sure I can make something for the both of us.

[Maybe a light rice dish or grilled vegetables are in order. Venom's in the mood for anything, mostly because he's hungry.]

It's carbonated water. Flavorless, but has as nice fizz to it. I've not found any neutral-flavored soda water here, only the regular sodas.

[Which he's never been much of a fan. They're too sweet.]

I'll have to keep that in mind. They'll have their share of my cooking endeavors, and I'll even offer to clean the kitchen.

Carbonated...

[he doesn't know that word either, and although Venom's explanation goes a long way to helping him understand, Linneus is having a struggle imagining what that is like, exactly. There are drinks that fizz, but that is usually how the wine has fermented, and as such quite expensive. Not entirely out of reach, but only really accessible if a guest paid for it.]

They will appreciate the chance to learn from you too, of course...!

[If he ever finds it here, he'll have to share with Linneus. The brothel's bar had sparkling water but it wasn't the same, so he has to keep on searching.]

I'm not sure what I could teach them. I've only been cooking for a few years. They probably have been going for much longer.

[do - if only for the reaction alone. Such things do tend to tickle his nose...]

Well, perhaps you have a different kind of cooking. Different methods, different recipes? Even small differences can be a point of interest, don't you think?

I suppose I could offer to show them particular recipes, such as breads and pasta. Or perhaps introduce them to more cheeses.

[cheese might not be the best for recuperating stomachs, but the rest sounds good to share]

I had an... acquaintance from home, who enjoyed baking. Sweet and savoury things. He'd take over the kitchen for entire afternoons sometimes...

There were times I wish I could take over the kitchen for a long period of time, but I was usually chased out in the end.

What kinds of things did they like to bake, if I may ask?

Oh, all sorts.

He did enjoy making cakes and pastries - little tarts with fruits in them, cupcakes, but... it seemed he had a suitor who didn't favour sweet things. So he turned his hand to savouries - quiches, devilled eggs...

That is unfortunate. I don't know if I could be with someone who didn't enjoy some sort of sweetness.

[Venom loved baking bread and other savory goods, but something about the challenge of items like tarts and cakes.]

And deviled eggs... I've heard of those, but never tried one.

( Anders isn't much of a picky eater. He couldn't afford to be one, after living three and a half years in the slums, eating nothing but scraps and stale food and whatever else he could get his hands on. )

You are too kind. ( Anders was just going to make a sandwich or something but he's not going to complain about this. )

I can definitely use help chopping vegetables. I was thinking of grilling some of them and making rice with it. How does that sound?

[He can always use the spare veggies for other dishes.]

( The last time he had rice, Justice overcooked it, and burnt the first batch, so he's looking forward to trying Venom's. He smiles at his friend. )

Shall we go, then? I might need to find a little something for Commander Nibbles to eat, too.

( She's around here somewhere. Probably off trying to play with someone's feet. )

How is Commander Nibbles these days?

[The last he saw the kitten she was trying to eat his gloves. Luckily they were a gift and were far sturdier than they looked.]

She's fine. She's grown into more of a menace since the last time you saw her.

( That's why Anders doesn't want to leave her alone in the apartment for too long. He's afraid what about what he'll find when he gets back. )

I've been trying to teach her not to scratch up the furniture.

I didn't know cats could be so destructive. Perhaps finding someone to look after her while you're working?

[Yes, he's suggesting a babysitter for Nibbles.]

I suppose one of my friends could probably watch her.

( Ocelot or Justice. Justice would probably need a list of instructions, though, since he's proven time and again he has no idea how to care for mortal beings, animal or otherwise. Ocelot would probably just teach his cat how to sniff out bombs. )

I'll have to think about it. ( After he gets something to eat. )

[If Venom had to pick, he'd pick Ocelot too. Justice is a sweetheart but still had much to learn about caring for other mortal creatures. And the world could benefit from more bomb-sniffing cats.]

I'd offer but I'm not sure Pepper would like having a cat in the house.

Don't worry about it. Does Pepper get jealous very easily?

( Or is he territorial? Anders doesn't know much about monkeys but cats are usually very territorial, and can sometimes get jealous. )

Not that I've seen, but he hasn't been around other animals, either.

[He should probably look into socializing him with other pets. Maybe he can make friends with dogs and cats.]
