Indeed. Much too organized. Impossibly organized, for what they claim, which means that someone was indeed directing things from behind the shadows, despite what they were instructed to say.

[ And doubtless Cain believes they were very much instructed to claim that — that there was no organization, that it was all spur of the moment, that there's no greater plan that the kidnappings were a prelude to. But he doesn't believe that. The kind infrastructure in place, the preparations made, how the kidnappers had been embedded in so many institutions, blending in, waiting... it doesn't add up. ]

I was able to find some of them, after recovering from the incident. [ Cain was taken too, a subtle answer to the question 76 didn't ask; a courtesy. ] They didn't reveal much. They'd been put under a spell to prevent them from answering detailed questions. But I was able to learn a few things from them. For one, one tiny thing about their leader, a mysterious "R."
