Well -- in my experience, anyway -- it's more about free will. We're meant to make our own mistakes and learn from them. If the Natha are anything like the Ancients then they sort of... work on a different plane and kind of have enough power to do a lot of damage if they want to. I've seen them just kind of flick entire fleets of ships out of the sky on a whim. If they kept doing that all the time then there's a lot of consequence and side-taking and moralising that comes with it, so they sort of set up to just... watch, I guess, and try to keep their distance. Not that they always stick to it.

[ And not that he strictly believes that never interfering at all is exactly the right moral choice, but he can sort of get where it comes from begrudgingly. ]
