He visibly hesitates for a moment, leans back in his chair and takes another bite of his sandwich to buy himself time. It's definitely been a conscious decision not to talk about them, because John is compartmentalising. He's boxed them away, and closed that box so he doesn't have to think about them. So he doesn't have to miss them.

"I think I told you about Teyla," he begins awkwardly. He didn't, really, just stood by her pod with Ianto and said she was a good person. John doesn't really remember much about the situation, though, other than it being around her pod and that he definitely mentioned her name anyway. "She was one of the first people we met out there."

Out in the Pegasus galaxy, that is.
