[ she doesn't have a phaser to start a fire with, but she did manage to locate some sticks and a few stones. the fire is small and the dampness soaked into the wood from the snow prevents it from burning as hot as she would like to, but it's a start. it's better than nothing. and one of the few reasons why she's forever grateful her father dragged the entire family out on camping trips as a child. as much as she hated being away from the technological spoils of the 24th century, knowing how to rough it, so to speak, has saved her life on more than one occasion. ]
Please, [ janeway gestures to the open spots around the fire, ] sit. There's plenty of warmth to go around. No sense in hogging it all for myself.
II. PHOTOGRAPHS
[ the light is bright, almost blinding, and she stumbles back a few steps in an effort to regain her balance and clear her vision. the photographs that she's left with are a series of images from home. not all of them are terriblyflattering or meant for public eye, and she does her best to gatherallthepicturesup before someone else does. sharing may be caring, but some things just aren't meant to be shown off — or hers to show at all. ]
III. P-P-P-POKER FACE
[ attempt to make someone with a poker face smile, you say? sure, why not. sure as hell beats going back out into the cold.
janeway volunteers to be the person donning said impassable poker face, tactfully neglecting to mention that she has some experience in that department that contributes to how well she can hold that well-controlled, hardened expression. she's playing with an unfair advantage here, and those who recognize the combadge pinned to her jacket may not need to be clued in at all.
she sits with her hands folded together neatly on the table before her, waiting for someone else to join her and rise to the challenge. ]
Alright. Let's see what you've got.
IV. WRECKAGE
[ the buddy system is great and all, but not always necessary when you've got a tricorder as a navigational guide. it alerts her not only to structural weaknesses and blockages throughout the ruinous vessel, but also to the presence of others who are also exploring the wreckage. ]
Careful— [ she calls out to whoever that lifesign ahead of her, that she can't quite see through the tangle of wires and cracked paneling hanging out of the damaged ceiling above. carefully, she steps around it, pressing her back against the wall and scooting carefully along its length until she's past the mess. ] The support beams on the deck below this one have collapsed. It's probably not long until that floor does the same.
