Perhaps in a few thousand years, you'll come to be as cynical as I am. But until then-- I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with wanting to hope for the best when placed in a difficult situation.

...but you might be on the right track with that line of thought. It's one I've had myself-- although I still doubt they would have created the storm intentionally or maliciously, it's possible it may be a by-product of their own existence. All that power has to be coming from somewhere.

It would explain their seemingly endless generosity, if it were born from a place of guilt rather than compassion. After all, if they simply wanted us to be safe and happy, I see no reason they couldn't have merely brainwashed us into believing we were born on this planet, and leave us to act out our lives blissfully unaware of what we've lost.

It's something they already do with the natives here, after all.
