Sheppard isn't wrong. While 76 could hope that his actual skillset was put to better use, that tends to lead to giant undead dragons raining destruction on everything. With that sort of match-up, he'll go with the scavenger hunt.

He isn't going to say no to company, especially since it's competent company. Sheppard doesn't hesitate to throw a bit of morbid humor into the situation, which 76 doesn't particularly mind.

"Let's go. I'll take point. If something does collapse on us, I'll probably weather it a little better than you." Assuming that Sheppard is as much of a baseline human as he appears, not that it's the sort of thing you can see just by eyeballing someone.
