[ Ana has made more friends and acquaintances here in the last year than she has in the last five. She and Jack spend a lot of time together, but they aren't each other's only company by a long shot. She's told a select few people about her past, and even about Gabriel, but it's easier to talk to someone who isn't involved and will never have full context for everything they've lost.

She wants to trust him. It's dangerous, but that doesn't make it less appealing. ]


Of course not. We stare at pictures of our loved ones and don't talk about it. [ It's not that Jack won't talk if she asks him, or vice versa, but they're already too comfortable and respectful of each other's silence to go digging in that mire. It's been too many years for anything productive to come of retreading old misery. For the most part, what's lost has already been lost for good.

It's just like Gabriel to waltz in and turn that upside down. ]
