You'd like to imagine the world isn't so caught up with mourning the dead that it ignores the plights of the living. Richie finds that for the most part, the city is committed to haunted walks and silent stupors. Who can blame them? Look at all that's been lost.
Even so, it's hard to believe no one but him clocks the woman who can't stop fumbling her package. He passes it off as a clumsy spell at first, and starts back on his way. Then he chances a second look over his shoulder and she's parked herself on storefront. It's hard to tell from a distance but the way she sits and she moves, it seems like she's failing to stifle a sob.
Richie holds still a moment. Then he turns back, walking even-paced. Maybe he's overreacting, but better safe than sorry.
