research for this post lead me to find that all-terrain wheelchairs exist, and they are beautiful
Who: Yusei Fudo (
planetary_bonds) & you!
What: guess who's forbidden from working on projects inside the house
When: a few days after SIDEQUESTMAGEDDON
Where: outside his house, Residential District
Warning(s): yusei being a grubby greasemonkey
[After their...heated discussion regarding Yusei's projects taking up too much space in the house and Sanzo taking things up in his own hands...in several ways...Yusei's finally taken the hint and has started working on projects outside the house.
Seeing him work, it's pretty obvious why. Once the guy actually gets started on something, it takes someone getting into his face to distract him, and there's all sorts of odds and ends scattered at his feet. Looks like he's used his payments from the various quests to get himself a set of proper tools, too, if the small toolbox at his feet means anything.
He seems to have multiple projects going on, as well. The first is a steam engine that apparently was taken from a junked car, and tweaking it seems to be the more dangerous of the two. In fact, he frequently seems to be forcing the thing to emit copious amounts of hot steam in his efforts to figure it out, and such a thing happens just around the time someone might come around to take a look.]
Gh-! Ah... [He turns and blinks at the new arrival, red-faced from the steam and somehow visibly sheepish despite his stoic demeanor.] Sorry, I didn't mean to cause you any trouble...
[Visible next to him and the misbehaving engine is the beginnings of a bike frame, an electric motor used for a fridge, and...some kind of chair. It looks like it's meant to be a wheelchair, but Yusei, what is that. That's goofy looking. And are those...treads next to it on the floor? Where did you even get treads? Don't tell them you're going to put those on the chair, Yusei? That's silly. Stop that.]

[By the way, that's what it's called now. Junpei looks at it, arms folded, seriously considering how much he trusts the idea of a wheelchair with a motor on it. Not because he doesn't know about electric wheelchairs - please - but... uh... Yusei....
His gaze moves to the literal steam engine sitting there.]
Not that motor, I hope.
no subject
...Interesting idea. It could work.
[He's joking. Really.
...I mean, he probably is.
...Right?]
no subject
Hey, whoa, hold on. You're going to get whoever this chair is for killed if you do that!
[Yusei please give him a clue?? He can't judge half of these resting bitchface expressions.]
no subject
Then he cracks a smile, and looks at Junpei.]
Don't worry, I wouldn't do that. This kind of engine on a wheelchair...it's not practical. They'd be spending more time refueling it than actually going anywhere with it.
[IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT?]
no subject
You're a real comedian, you know that? [He doesn't doubt that a guy who keeps an engine on his coffee table would try to strap it to a chair? Don't do this to him.]
Look, should it sit on it and push it around a little, or not?
no subject
But okay, he'll actually sober up a little and be serious now. This is an official project for someone's well-being, after all.]
Go ahead. I'm trying to design a wheelchair that can move around on all sorts of terrain, so a test would help out.
no subject
Give him a second, he'll figure out where to put those and grab the actual handles in a minute.]
Uh, so... should I just go up the street and back?
no subject
If you think you've got enough arm power.
no subject
Yeah, yeah. Hold onto your hat.
[Or that weird hair... Anyway, he'll roll a few houses down and then come back, he supposes. He's not secretly buff like some people, so he's not super speedy, but he manages. It works: it is a functional chair with wheels.]
no subject
Anyways, Yusei watches Junpei roll off without a word, watching how smoothly the chair goes...or doesn't go. It's still a pretty basic frame, so...
When Junpei comes back, he seems marginally more serious.]
Did it feel like a smooth ride?
no subject
It felt like... a ride? I've never been in a wheelchair before, but uh, I guess it was fine.
no subject
Well, if you didn't have any difficulties, that's good. I want to make this as accessible as possible. Thanks.
no subject
Right. That's the point of wheelchairs, and everything. I've seen ramps before. [What is he... ignore him. He pushes the wheelchair back and forth in place a few more times, then gets up. Yep, it's a chair.]
no subject
Mn. That makes it all the worse if it's a chair that can't live up to its premise, right?
[Yusei, don't honor that kind of idiosyncratic aside, it's nonsense, you're nonsense.]
no subject
[Go on... regale him.]
no subject
[oh, wow. Yusei's actually humoring him. Of course he would.]
no subject
What's the hard part? It's not that advanced.
no subject
[Huh. What.]
no subject
[Yusei??]
no subject
[Junpei, you're giving him ideas. Or more opportunities to snark at you. It's not clear which.]
no subject
[Just no. That's a rule now. He's made it one, officially.]
no subject
C'mon, Junpei, consider it. Wheelchair tanks.]
no subject
Dude, come on. Tell me you're not building a tank out of a chair.
no subject
[
yetno really he's not. honest.]The client didn't ask for that.
[...so you would if they asked? or]
no subject
[Make him this promise.... it's vital.]
