PRELUDE Entry to the forest is not only overgrown with vegetation, but seems to be growing at an increasingly alarming rate. Any attempts to clear the vines will be met with even larger ones growing in its place, and it only confirms Nurray's findings as true. The only way in is across the sound from Nadril, entering the forest from its snowy back yard. It doesn't stay cold for long; as one ventures further into the forest, the snow will disappear, as though it was completely out of place in the first place. The red sun's warmth will take its place soon after— and before long, you'll feel too warm for the clothes you came with. That's when you know you've entered the heart of Josa Forest. WITHIN THE FOREST ![]() The forest seems to be thick with a profound presence that can’t be ascertained. While venturing through it, one will feel like there are being watched or followed. This feeling will only intensify as metallic-scented drops of rain begin to fall between the clearings in the trees. Unfortunately, what many don’t realize at this point is that this is how the forest itself eats. How it subsists and lives through the minds of those who eventually get lost in it. Wandering this far in is akin to walking into a lion’s jaw, or rather… straight to its stomach. But, the forest has a way of making one stay. While it swallows someone up, it shows them sinfully beautiful and picturesque sights. Even showing them people or things that are familiar to the lost. All of which will urge them to go in deeper and deeper. But, while the forest begins to prey on the mind of their victim— they will suddenly hear an elegant and alluring voice urging them back. This voice promises them comfort and safety. Promises to be kind and open. Promises she has a place for them where they will never feel displaced or unwanted, or lost. Before they can fully accept, they will find that they are whisked away in Barthala’s embrace. Some will be taken, wiped of all their previous memories and inserted new ones. Others will find they have no prior memories at all of themselves, only urged to go on with regular life. What is prevalent is the forest's desire to turn you. Metamorphosis is a phenomenon that occurs only to certain individuals, and there is no rhyme or reason to them. Some adventurers would find themselves changing by the minute, the hour, or the process may even take days and weeks. The forest toys with you, but it only wants to draw you closer to its core — as though there's a story there it wants you to see and understand. Will you go on anyway, knowing the forest has already has its claws on you? I. ALL ROADS LEAD TO — YOUR NEW (NEW) LIFE ![]() Adapting to an entirely new setting isn’t always so simple. People often say that assimilating oneself to the environment happens fluidly, and before you know it, you’re a part of it. In Dranbu, these words hold an uncanny sense of truth. When you awake, your day begins like it always has. Your daily routine meets largely unchanged, except a few tinier details. Perhaps, you’ve realized your true calling is an occupation within the villages itself. Maybe in farming up strange medical herbs, maybe in acting as a witch doctor for the people, or maybe you find yourself drawn to the arts and you really enjoy sculpting fellow villagers in the nude. Once you commit these tasks, you realize, it feels like what you’ve always done. As if it were natural, as if you’ve done them for years, and maybe you have? At least that’s what your gut is telling you, and slowly your memories will too. At the end of the day, when you return home, you realize you’re not alone. You have a partner who shares the same values and whom you love deeply. Or maybe a spouse whom you’re always arguing with. But, even that will feel as commonplace as the rest of your day. All you know is that the day that might have started off not being yours is entirely yours and yours alone. IV. THE HUNT — THE BOUNDARIES BEYOND ![]() For some, placated is synonymous with bored. While there is a sense of wonder in the beauties of nature that adorn the woods, serene forest life isn't for everyone. Those seeking more adventure can explore the challenging slopes of Waco Mountain. Barthala's influence is weaker on those bluffs than in Josa Forest itself, so thrill chasers won't be disappointed. Lose the path, slip on loose rocks, fall into a stream and spend a night wet and cold, there are many perils that come with traveling a mountain-side. Scattered ruins offer some shelter, their walls carved with images resembling Barthala, a dragon, and three other stranger creatures. While the deity's pacification does not flow as deeply through this region, all are still save from mortal wounds, and the veil cast over their memories will not lessen. If you have made it this far, however, there is no reason to try to return to the main city of Dranbu. Accommodations are always available in the neighboring villages: Phares in the north, and Stroln in the south. These villages are in friendly competition with one another, and will tempt travelers with women and men of their kind in order to draw in business to their hotels. FINAL OOC NOTES
No REP is available for this log. REP will now be primarily available through achieving NPC quests, which will be available on the 19th! Please keep an eye out for that!
Dranbu is entirely available for exploration! You may find that most of Wyver and Olympia Flora/Fauna may be found in the forest as well. For more information on your characters' (opt-in) Metamorphosis, please refer to the November Outline!

kairi | kingdom hearts
[ Kairi's one who's been taken by the forest, unfortunately — and any who know of her existence here may have noticed she's gone missing recently.
Though should anyone find her, she'll have ... some differences in her appearance. She's mostly the same — same pink dress as always, same smile. But now she's sporting some rabbit ears, sticking right up from her head, as well as a small bushy tail which is unfortunately unseen under her dress.
Having lost her memories, she's been spending much of her time in the local fields, stringing flowers together to make bracelets and charms, reminiscent of what she'd normally have done with seashells. For some strange reason, she enjoys the activity and it gives her peace. Having no previous memories to go on, it's all she really has. ]
ii;
[ Kairi has had the unfortunate experience of brushing past a cutpurse willow. And while she doesn't currently have any objects for it to steal from her, she does have her tall rabbit ears. So before she can realize it, there's a vine wrapping around one of them, stopping her in her tracks. ]
Huh —?
[ And then pulling upwards, which is really not comfortable when the thing it's pulling on is attached to your head. ]
Ouch — hey, cut it out! Let go!
[ Time to pull on her ear and hope someone nearby is kind enough to do something? ]
iii;
[ So Kairi's noticed the thalassa shells she's kept within her small pouch, which have made their way from her home world to this one. And it's ... strange, because while she's meant to not remember them right now, they stir a strange feeling within her heart. Not strong enough to break the spell, but strong enough to make her curious.
So she makes her way up to anyone who comes near, holding one out. ]
Do you know where this is from? I haven't seen any around here.
[ There's no ocean nearby, is there ...? She hasn't seen any in all her time in this forest, and it's weird. ]
wildcard;
[ Feel free to come at me with something else! ]
iii
[ Duo is unfortunately not very well versed in oceans to begin with. As a spacer by birth, the young man has barely explored Earth enough past destroying military bases, wreaking havoc and hanging out at one of Quatre's many expensive bungalows to know one shell from another. So, with shells presented to him there's a little frown that crosses his face, as if trying to riddle out if there's an ocean for himself as well. ]
Uh... nah.. they don't look familiar to me. [ Narrowly resisting the urge to reach out and touch just to see what it feels like, here, Duo just tips his head and shifts to get a look from another angle. ]
I don't even think there's an ocean around here. Did you find 'em here or like.. on you?
no subject
[ It's really bugging her. She feels this weird connection to it, but she can't remember why at all. It's frustrating. And he's just confirmed that there's probably no ocean around here, too. Which makes it all the more confusing as to why she has these in her pouch. ]
I found them on me. In here.
[ Gesturing towards the black pouch she keeps around her waist all the time. There were a few seashells in it, but heck if she knows why. ]
no subject
No, sorry... [ Duo feels a bit bad about it just by virtue of the way she deflates. Of course he can't answer every single question - he isn't an oracle by any means... but he feels like he's never even seen this girl before.
So if she's new and doesn't remember things? Yikes.
But then she elaborates that she found them on her, and Duo pauses for a moment, debating what to do. Upsetting someone over their memories wasn't his goal, but on the same coin.. ]
So they're.. probably yours. Or is there a chance someone left them on you? I mean.. that'd be pretty messed up but I guess out here it's a .. good question..
no subject
They can't be mine. I've never even seen them before.
[ Except you have and they're super important to you and memory loss sucks. ]
You think someone would do that? I guess I have fallen asleep out here a few times. But why would anyone want to?
[ It's so strange to just. Put your seashells in someone's bag. That makes no sense. She's just a lonely lil bunny girl!! ]
no subject
Then I'm not really sure why you have them. [ Man, this is kinda difficult. Granted, Duo is a terrorist and all, but he doesn't like having these hard person to person exchanges. It's awkward and he has zero answers for her, which is even worse so far as he's concerned. ]
Maybe they're just trying to... I don't know. Prank you or something? Prank someone else by giving you their shells?
[ He doesn't know what people do outside of his shrinking group of friends.. yikes. ]
Thankfully they're just shells instead of something dangerous, I guess..
no subject
[ That doesn't help her much. Playing a prank on someone with shells? Who even does that? And if she's got someone else's shells, then that's even worse — she doesn't want to be labelled as a thief! She's not a thief! Just an innocent victim!!
She goes ahead and looks at the shell she's got in her hand for a moment. Curiously. ]
They make my chest feel ... kind of weird.
[ Yep, that's normal. ]

Akechi is too startled by that to be startled about suddenly being addressed, and then the strange shells get a curious frown out of him. ]
I can't say I've seen any of those, either. They look like seashells, but none I've never seen.
[ He's not a marine biologist or anything, but he's pretty sure he can recognize a typical shell. Still, if she doesn't know what it is... ]
It might be something native to El Nysa - or it could be something brought by another refugee.
no subject
Do you know where they might've come from? If they're from around here. I feel like ... I need to find it.
[ Too bad she's worlds away from where they're actually from. ]
no subject
[ Though... ]
Do you remember where you found it?
no subject
In here. [ And she turns to gesture to the black pouch she keeps around her waist. ]
I don't know how they could've gotten in there, though.
i
Sora.
Guess who's been up all night looking for her?
Sora.
Guess who suddenly feels a massive rush of relief and joy upon catching sight of her sitting in a meadow as if nothing at all unusual's happened in the last day or so?
Sora again.]
Kairi!
[It's only when he draws closer to her that he realises there's something... off about her appearance. But first, out come a rush of questions for her as he catches his breath.]
What happened? Where have you been, I've been looking everywhere!
[And then the elephant - or rather rabbit in the room:]
What's that on your head?!
no subject
Her face is clear with shock, and then some apprehension — emotions she'd likely never look at Sora with. At least, under normal circumstances. But these aren't that. ]
Those are my ears. [ She sounds kind of offended by his question. They are a part of her body and thus should not be called 'that' or treated like they are weird!!! Everyone here is like this!! ]
And who are you? Why have you been looking for me?
[ Stalker?????? ]
no subject
[Sora skids to a halt in front of her, eyes like saucers and jaw slightly slack. Why is she looking at him like that? She's never, never looked at him like that before in all the years they've known each other. It just isn't right
He sinks to his knees a few feet across from her.]
What do you mean? Kairi it'sme. Sora.
no subject
You must have me mixed up with someone else. I don't know any Sora's.
[ ... Sorry, friend. ]
no subject
['Ha ha,' he should say, 'real funny.'
But he doesn't. He knows her so well, has every little tick and quirk of hers committed to memory so that he knows her as well as he knows himself, and he knows that this isn't a joke.
She's not playing around.]
What- You do know a Sora. You know me, I promise. You've known me for a long time, ever since we were little. You, me and Riku, you remember Riku, right? We're best friends, you've gotta remember!

When he hears a cry of alarm--pain?--nearby, he turns sharply. The voice sounds familiar, but either way he heads in that direction. Axel might not be an especially heroic type, but even he's pretty hard pressed to just ignore a cry for help, especially if it sounds like it just might be someone he knows. Sure enough, he rounds a bend and skirts around a tree and spots a familiar bob of auburn hair, sporting what appears to be a pair of... rabbit ears. Which are currently being attacked by a prehensile vine.
Boy, this place never runs out of surprises.
"Hang on, princess," he calls, summoning one of his chakrams. Sure, it might be alarming to have a chakram flying toward her, but if he can cut the vine from a distance, it's better than risking getting caught in it himself. "Hold still for just a second!"
He lets the weapon fly, and it soars in a graceful arc, slicing through the vine pulling at her ear, and then slicing through another nearby on its way back to him. He lifts his hand to catch it, then dismisses the weapon away, confident that the vine will think twice before coming back for round two.
"Hey, are you okay?" he asks, approaching carefully. He figures she's still going to be wary around him, but he definitely can't just leave her here.
no subject
She gives a nod to his question, after a moment of hesitation. ] I — I'm fine. [ And she goes ahead and reaches up to pet her poor bunny ear, bringing it down a little so she can look up at it and check for any bruises. It seems ... fine enough, just the furs a little messed up. ]
Thanks for saving me.
[ That's ... that's it. She doesn't have much of an opinion on him, aside from being thankful for his help. It's hard not having your memories. ]
That thing just wouldn't let go.
no subject
"Sorry I threw my chakram at'cha," he says, looking a little repentant. "I knew it wouldn't hit you, though, so long as you stayed still, cross my heart."
He can tell she's still really nervous about him, but something about her reaction seems... off somehow. She's not being sassy, and seems uncharacteristically timid, and it's worrisome.
"Kairi, are you okay?" he asks again, carefully, but keeps his distance. He doesn't want to spook her any more than she seemingly already is.
no subject
She lets her ear go back to its usual position as she answers him. ]
I'm okay. [ A pause. ] Who're you? And how do you know my name?
[ Sorry but she sounds suspicious. ]
iii
It's just that he didn't realize how much it would hurt, being the one who's forgotten. Even if they weren't close enough for there to be much to forget.
But it's not just about her, it's someone else, somewhen else.]I think it probably came from the Destiny Islands.
no subject
So you know where they're from!
[ Except ... ]
Um, where's that? I've never heard of it before. Is it around here?
no subject
No...it's a whole other world. You know other worlds exist, right?
[How much has she forgotten? Surely there has to be something left.]
no subject
Other worlds? [ She's ... trying to rationalize this as best a forest bunny girl could. ] You mean like ... other villages, right?
no subject
