[He's trying so hard. His struggling is kind of endearing.]

Why don't I show you?

[Without waiting for a response, she reaches over her sandwich -- oh right, she forgot she'd been eating that -- to dig through her satchel, coming out with a square of knitted fabric, perhaps twenty stitches and twenty rows. It had just been a test of the technique, weak for its simplicity the uncertainty that went into it but enough to demonstrate that the spell could hold. This she draped over one palm, while her other hand pulled out a spare knitting needle.

She doesn't even need wands to cast magic, not really. But they help. An ordinary needle would be nothing in comparison to the Quills of Echidna, but she didn't need power here, only focus.

Holding the needle between her fingers with a grip decidedly unlike how she would hold it for actual knitting, Rose gives it a little flick and a beam of bright violet light leaps out of the tip. It strikes the knitted square and, rather than burn straight through it, impacts with some unseen shielding a few inches away. The different magics clash with a scattering of sparks, but it's the beam that peters out and leaves the knitted square untouched.]
