I don't think magic should be an excuse for a lack of science. In fact, I believe they are more like yin and yang, where one can not exist without at least a little bit of the other.
Just because two separate means of possibility cannot interact with each other does not mean that they are unable to coexist.
After all, magic is pretty heavily relied upon where I'm from, but I would like to think our technology is fairly adept as well.
Perhaps your world simply lacks that balance, and your technology only seems advance due to how un-advanced your world is with its magic.
