( the saddest part of all this is that he'd probably say that again in a perfectly ideal situation.... . . . ... ....

it's a little shameful that the tea he has no memory of is in a cabinet he'd definitely already looked in.
) Right. I knew that. ( he didn't, that's a terrible save. he plucks open the cabinet to look at his choices. there's no Lipton to throw in some hot water, which is his American knowledge of iced tea, but he figures any black tea will taste pretty similar. so he takes what looks like black tea and puts that next to the glasses, making a bizarre little assembly line precariously perched on the edge of the counter.

aunt talk is kind of an unexpected segue but Peter will take it and cling to it like a life line to save him from himself.
) Sure. She cooked for both of us. Er, well, she cooked more when I was still in high school, but then she started working more at the diner, so we ordered in. ( it's too much information, maybe, but it's delivered a little more easily than... you know, everything other dumb thing he's said in the last ten minutes.

he laughs at the slightly worried inquiry.
) She let me in the kitchen, I was joking. She did kick me out once at Thanksgiving, but it was only because I kept trying to steal bites of the pie. ( the kettle is the easiest part of this whole operation, it turns out, since it's already settled on a burner. even Peter Parker manages to turn it on without much issue. )
