As someone who would continue to fight through blinding pain because he could not allow even the monster that tried to kill him to suffer—and who refused help when he believed that it would endanger her as well. Of course that would be his answer. Because that is the sort of person (human or not) he is.
So even if the the answer that he gives her is a bit different, that isn't what surprises her. It's the way he smiles in a way that's bittersweet and almost difficult to look at that throws her off-guard, even as he continues to speak. That he could even smile at all considering what has happened, the weight and enormity of it, to say with conviction that he believes that everything will be okay—
"—we'll be okay."
Not just for him, but for the both of them. ]
