[ ... slowly—gently—he reaches out a bit unsteadily for her hand. At least, where he thinks it might be. So that he might cover it with his, even if he probably bumps her wrist lightly in the process before he realizes and readjusts.

(It's terrifying. Makes his chest clench to realize he can't even reach to take someone's hand in reassurance. But now isn't the time for that.)

He squeezes her hand gently instead when he does manage to find it. ]

..Just because it's the way something has always been, it doesn't mean it's right, or even still true. So even if that might have been how everyone would have reacted before... it doesn't mean that's how it has to be anymore.

I think people here would understand. [ Let's be honest, they're pretty understanding even of him and all his oddities. Almost weirdly so. ] And even if they don't...

..that's okay. [ He squeezes her hand again briefly, and for a second it's almost like he has to take a moment to reassure himself as well. ]

Even if the rest world doesn't understand, as long as the people close to you believe in you—then even if the rest of the world hates you, they're still your home and you can find belonging there. The people who accept you even when no one else will.. that's what makes a feeling of "belonging" special.

[ Allen Walker, the Exorcist who left his fellow Exorcists and because of those aspects of himself he knew they fundamentally would never accept and would only cause them continued grief. Despite how beloved they were to him. ]
