Well, admittedly, it is the first time I have ever danced with another man.

Despite Lukas apparently being anxious, he seemed coolheaded and confident enough (or maybe apathy misunderstood as confidence?) about the task that Percival assumed he knew what he was doing. Perhaps the competition isn't as much of a guarantee as he'd assumed.
