Peggy often asks questions when she can at least anticipate some part of the answer. But this, as has often been the case when touching on Claire's life, exceeds anything she could have guessed. She didn't know about Frank β€” why would she? But beyond that, Frank was British intelligence. That alone makes her heart jump because she thinks, maybe, this is a sign that she can be a little more honest with her. (Just because she's good at keeping secrets, at lying, doesn't mean she enjoys it. Especially not with friends.)

But the gala isn't the time for that. She listens to the rest, the whole convoluted tale, even if it somehow seems rather cut and dried, too. Day and night, as the other woman says.
