Atsushi's doubt being pressed out from beneath his acceptance is a tangible thing, and Mikazuki thinks that that's good. That's how it ought to be. And being mostly devoid of manners still doesn't stop him from coming out with a earnest, well-worn but equally dogged: ]

[Perhaps predictably, it's that simple "thanks" that finally makes Atsushi cheer up properly. He helps people because he wants to, and if they're friends of his, so much the better. He doesn't need thanks... but it still feels damn good to get that kind of appreciation, even if he doesn't need it. No - because he doesn't need it, maybe.
Losing a lot of blood is never nothing, but that's the kind of attitude Atsushi has come to expect from Mikazuki. That's why he tries to be very firm when he offers:]

["To make sure you don't collapse," he doesn't say; "I'll still carry you if I need to," he doesn't point out, either. Simple, practical, but without a lot of room for discussion. He hopes he can get Mikazuki to agree, that way.]
[ For him, it's nothing so deep or troublesome to give. A thanks for a job done to the best of his ability, a gift he didn't have to share, no matter how much of a surprise it was. Giving a look around, he seems pretty deflated as compared to his usual boyish energy, no matter how monotonous that energy normally is. Something about that water really took it out of him as swiftly as it spiked his lack of inhibitions. ]

[ Mikazuki is far from someone who expects anyone else to put their hide on the line for him, but he's come to recognize that Atsushi probably will whether he likes it or not, and he's a little too tired to argue with him over it, at that. It's with begrudging acceptance that he realizes he can't really outpace him like this, either.
