You know, the whole possibility of being hurt or otherwise maimed in an effort to keep himself his own actor and all. There's no being a gundam pilot if one isn't crazy enough to like some danger every now and then. He's glad to be released, but still feeling a little bit beefed by his entire ordeal - ]

I've already made my offer of additional silver. But considering the extent of my own powers and influence, I would think it goes without saying that there's much more I could offer you should you prove yourself to be useful enough to warrant it.

What can I say? I don't like a shit end of a deal. [ Though the offer to turn him over to the guards garners a little laugh, hands flying up as if to say he was more than welcome if that's what stroked his ego. At least, he thinks, the guards wouldn't have freaky, weird ass powers and he could probably just pummel them and make it the hell out of there. ] Feel free to do what you want, and when your guards wake up a few weeks later you can explain to them who you gave them to willingly.
[ Since he seems to know so much abut him, anyways - ] Honestly, you keep talking about your power ad influence so much it's enough to make a guy think you might be talking out your ass. How much ego stroking does one guy need?
Prone to failure? [ Honestly he kind of wants to just blow his head off for that one (prone to failure that), but decides that's probably not the best idea.]
Excuse me for not providing for dudes with an ego the size of Jupiter and weird ass powers instead of brute force. [He says as he starts to slowly close the distance between them, hands neatly folded behind his back. He'll stop if Duo draws his weapon, but if allowed, he'll just get right up in his face.]

[ You know, Duo isn't all that renowned for his brains (even tough he probably should be considering everything he knows is kinda sorta self taught) - but in the moment he's definitely not raising his weapon. Instead it's one of those devil may care kind of smirks where he knows he's up shit's creek but isn't about to back down on the principle alone, even if he's out manned and now has Mephisto looming over him. ]
If I was the type of guy who liked to know absolutely everything about a place or a person before I swooped in and turned it in to an absolute shit show I wouldn't have chosen terrorism, now would I? [ The smile cold be mistaken for sweet, but the look in his eye definitely isn't. ]
Ya leave that kinda mapping thing to a military salt.
I just prefer to barge in and blow it all up, but I think you should know that already.

[Said with a snicker-- okay, so maybe stealth wasn't his thing, but that didn't mean he couldn't be a useful pawn further down the line for something else?? He could afford to think a bit creatively. But then, it's possible their combined egos just aren't going to allow them to come to a clean agreement here.]
[So maybe it's time to just go back to fucking with him.]
But you know, maybe you're right! Perhaps I don't have a use for you after all. But you know...
[Is Duo ready for this because it's gonna happen quickly--]
[Mephisto's hands reach out and grab both of Duo's arms, pushing them down to his sides and holding them in place with a vice-like grip -- with an unnatural strength, by all means, he doesn't look like he should have.]
[And then he's lifting him up.]
[Lion King style. Up into the air and damn near over his head with those long-ass arms of him.]
[Completely effortlessly, with no sign of strength or even any actual effort being put in. But the feeling will be different from when he used his powers, given Duo will have the option of struggling as much as he wants. This is just how strong he is.]
You really are selling yourself short! Are you that adverse to working with me, Mäuschen? Because if so, you really should just say so instead of stringing me along like this!

What's there to sell? [ And that's absolutely not a sarcastic question, for once in this entire conversation. Being a little asshole that knows how to sneak in to bases, plant bombs and blow them up wasn't exactly something he could post on a sign after all. Hell, he'd told absolutely no one here just yet about any of that, even if he'd spoken pretty freely about war and conflict.
Right here and now with Mephisto though is now purely a conflict on principal for Duo - he'll do his damndest not to crack just to prove a point. Sure, he should probably back down to the guy with creepy powers and find a way to duck him afterward, but since when has he taken that way out?
Hint : quite a lot. Just like back handed street fighting that was a Duo Maxwell shit sandwich special.
Still - he's not quite expecting to be lifted like that, or quite so easily. Sure, the guy was big, but... well. Even he's a little caught off guard by this one, eyes widening ever so slightly before he reigns it back in. He manages to let out a breath, a bit like a sigh, as if he's too tired for everything (though in reality it's a breath he was holding because what the fuck is this tbh). ]
I'm pretty sure I've said so, actually. Multiple times now. Whatever this 'offering to God' moment is I've already told a nun I don't buy in to it, so...
Not gonna work, I don't think. If anything you're giving yourself a lightning rod.

[That slight flicker in his expression, the sign that Mephisto has thrown him off guard-- even if it only showed for a second. That's literally all he wanted.]
["An ego the size of Jupiter" isn't really an accurate enough description. His ego is fucking limitless.]
Ahh, how disappointing. [--is what he says, but he says it with this face, so he's apparently pretty satisfied with all of this.]

Then I suppose we're done here, yes? Of course, I have a feeling this won't be the last time we see each other.
But for your sake-- you should hope it doesn't happen while sneaking around these halls. Next time, I might just do a little more than waste your time.

[ Thankfully Duo's used to dropping from height, even if it's not typically some dude holding him out and dropping him, but thankfully he doesn't fall on his face as well as the final insult to it all.
There's no chance this will be his last adventure in this place, but he's sure as hell going to be keeping a better eye out for tall dudes with weird powers that there's no way he'll be able to get one over on without some acquired powers of his own.
Note to self : Get some of those. ]

[And in a rather disorienting poof, Duo is now outside! Appearing on the front steps, just as he was standing in the hall... and probably much to the confusion of the people around him, seeing as he just kinda threw him in the midst of a crowd of students.]
