[ At least A2's distracting the vulture, enough that Cain can scramble to his feet and throw himself behind a handy outcropping of rock for some cover. He scrabbles at his belt and pulls out a pistol, grinning ruefully at A2 as he cocks the hammer. ]

It took me by surprise. [ He lets out a regretful sigh as the vulture, undaunted by A2's attack, circles above for another run at them. ] I don't even know what I did to deserve this! All I was doing was looking at the sky!

That is enough to piss off one that owns it.

[ get it? because a vulture basically lives up there. swinging her sword around, she'll position herself and be ready to strike for when it comes near her. at least cain has a weapon that he can use now. ]

Either way, there's no letting it escape.

More like we have to hope it'll let us escape...

[ A rueful laugh accompanies his comment, but he doesn't hesitate in shaking out his arm, shedding a few drops of blood. All in working order despite the scratches, and he settles himself, bracing, his eyes narrowing a little against the glare. He'll trust A2 to be the bait, but he's not going to leave her without cover fire. ]

It's a very unreasonable bird, you know. You can't own the sky. It belongs to everyone.

[ if she gets hurt, it won't really hurt! mostly. pain's weird when it comes to androids, okay. naturally, the vulture is going to come back around for another attempt. it really won't let them go easily. ]

Just get the damn animal.

I will! But I don't want it to get you in the meantime!

[ Even if she's an android and it won't hurt! Just because it might not hurt doesn't mean she should get injured! That's too close to treating her as disposable, and Cain really doesn't like that at all. He's not willing to do that.

Which is why he's leaning a little too far out of cover when the bird comes around for another try at them, enough that it catches sight of him and decides he'd be a better target.

Luckily(?) that means he's got a perfectly lined up shot as it comes screaming right towards him, and he manages to shoot it down before it reaches him.

He only gets bowled over, going down with a yelp, by a dead vulture thing instead of a live one! ]

[ There's no point in her finishing the sentence as what happens next, happens quickly. ] Cain! [ Instead, there's a sharp snap in his direction when she watches the vulture. On the plus side, it's dead and it doesn't look like it's residing on much

On the negative, it sure gave her a minor heart attack. A2 wastes no time in coming to his side. ]

That was reckless.
