Who: Rin Okumura (
demonly) & Crowley Eusford (
eusford)
What: quest! translating
When: february
Where: temple library
Warning(s): none hopefully(?)
[ Why did Rin agree to this? Because he needs that coin. And Crowley, the mutual "acquaintance" (using that term lightly) of he and Juvia, had asked him for help in a certain quest. Made it sound super important, too, which he can't help but feel dependable about!! That is, until after their agreed meeting time and the short walk it took to get to the destination, Rin realizes that they're entering a library. Somewhere unfamiliar to him, in all aspects.
Great. ]
Huh? Why're we at the library? I thought ya said ya needed help with a quest!!
[ Which usually meant?? Physical stuff??????? Are they moving bookcases?? ]

the gang helps rin learn how to read
He calls Rin and requests his help for one reason: he knows that this dumb child will just do whatever he says. ]
Did you want another job at the farm? I'll throw a word in to that old man that you want a turn at milking their herd, or something. [ He waves a hand nonchalantly. ] Anyway, think of it as a nice change of pace... doubt you'll even break a sweat.
[ Gesturing Rin over, he guides them to a table where a few of the librarian's had readily spread out a few of the documents. With no pen or paper in sight, it's clear that Crowley hasn't even started to do any of this on his own. ]
You've gone to school, haven't you?
i hate you for writing about milk
What? I mean, baby cows are cute and everything, but I'm not exactly a farmhand type, if that's what yer askin'...
[ Nonetheless, it looks like Crowley is finally gonna take them to whatever they're supposed to be doing (not that Rin can tell what it is just based off of the documents on the table). Immediately, he can tell that these aren't in the language they've learned to read and speak in now, but Crowley's question pulls him out of focusing on that for too long. ]
I mean, yeah, exorcism school and stuff. I was kinda a flunk, though...
[ "Kinda" is putting it nicely; he regularly had remedial classes for his consistent 0's on exams. Sometimes he would get a barely passing grade, which called for celebration, but that was rare. ]
What's that got to do with anything?
who's gonna write about it if not me?????????
Exorcism school... [ He sounds skeptical, but it's not like he's got any room to judge being a vampire and all. ] Maybe that will help a little, surely they had you guys readin' weird signs or whatever, right?
[ HE'S JUST BEING A DUMBASS AND ASSUMING. ]
We're gonna try translating. Or at least attempt to, I'm familiar with a handful of languages but from what I've seen so far none of these are making a lick of sense. And the workers here seem to be at their wits end trying to piece together what they can, I didn't think it'd be too hard but... [ He points out a document laid on the table, finger tracing over a line of a language completely foreign to him. Unsurprising, but irritating none-the-less. ] Just take a look.
damn... u right
[ Translating...yeah, definitely not his forte. He has no shame admitting his (completely obvious) lack of skill in the art of academia, and he looks more flustered at the idea of having to perform this task than anything else - nonetheless, he scampers closer to Crowley's side to peer at the text he points out, brows immediately furrowing. ]
We're supposed to read this?!
[ Rin is, on all levels, the worst person to bring into the library; his voice carries throughout the halls which gains both of them a bunch of harsh shhhs coming in their direction. At least he's smart enough to whisper his next complaint: ] There's no frickin' way someone like me can understand this...
[ At least he can admit that some of the symbols do look like sigils related to magic, not that he can remember the exact school of magic he recognizes it from, but he picks up the piece of paper and brings it comically close to his face as if that'll help him understand it any better. ]
Ya didn't get anything outta this one?
no subject
[ But as Rin proves that he's probably the last person Crowley should have chose, he becomes increasingly more aware of the fact that they are, indeed, fucked. To hell and back. However he is going to make some attempt at recovery as a small sigh slips past his lips. ]
This [ He points at a line of sigils, lips pulled into a frown. ] is the most I could make sense of, to be honest... something about being stoned?
