Who: Riku (
guidetoblivion) & Sora (
happylocksmith)
What: Sora insists on bunking in with his BFF. Riku just wants to sleep on the floor. Shenanigans ensue.
When: early February, during arrivals
Where: Old City, Wyver
Warning(s): stubborn dorks squabbling
[It's late when they arrive in the city, the moon of this world already high up in the sky. The darkness of the night is their ally as far as Riku is concerned, it makes it easier to sneak around undetected, to sneak past guards and make their way towards the north end of Wyver.
Home sweet home, as far as Riku is concerned. At least for the moment.
He relaxes a little the closer they get to the Old City, there shouldn't be any more guard patrols from here on out, no reason to fight or lie in order to get Sora into the city. Still, he keeps his voice low, when he turns to Sora.]
It's not too far anymore.
[Which is really a relieve after the last few days of trudging through bog and fighting off vultures. Riku wouldn't mind a good night sleep… even if he'll take the floor probably.]

There is no need for Sora to worry about him like that, really.
Unaware of Sora's thoughts, he just shrugs though.]
It has its perks.
[Nobody tells him to clean anything… but well, on the other hand if he doesn't do some cleaning every now and then, nothing ever gets cleaned either. It takes a lot of self-reliance to live like this, Riku has discovered, not that that's the problem. No, rather than that…]
It gets a little lonely sometimes too, though. So no… I don't mind having you around.
[Really, Riku would have invited Sora to come along to stay with him anyway, even if Sora hadn't insisted on it.]
no subject
You make sure to stay with him and keep him safe. That's your job, Sora, and I'm counting on you to do it,
okay?
Riku might not be travelling down paths towards darkness anymore, but whatever path he follows, Sora's going to be travelling it right there beside him.]
Ha ha, I'll remind you of that when you get sick of me you know.
[There's a spring in Sora's step and a smile on his face as they keep going.]
no subject
…Though, if Sora stays beside him, Riku isn't complain about it. Much. For the moment.
For a second there's a quip on his lips – 'Like that's ever going to happen.' – but well, it has happened, hasn't it? Riku had gotten jealous and angry and it had ended in a giant mess, the consequences of which are affecting him to this day. So he just says:]
Right.
[Then moves on. They have finally reached his hovel anyway. Riku shoves the metal sheet that serves as a door, then steps aside as he says:]
Welcome to my place.
no subject
And that means you, buddy.
Riku pushes the sheet metal back and Sora bounds forward to get his first glimpse of his new home and-]
Oh. Wow it's really -
[Dilapidated? Not what he was expecting? Shabby? Really where he lives?
No, no none of those are the right answer to go with here.]
It's really something, Riku! Wow. Your own place.
[Give him a moment here.]
no subject
You can call it what it is; a dump.
[Riku has no illusions about that. But true enough, it's his own place and Riku figures as long as it has a bed and something like stowage space, it's good enough. It's not like his room in Castle Hollow Bastion, but well… it's better than sleeping on the floor of the basement in the Twilight Town mansion. (Or in a cave, for that matter.)
It seems though, like Sora won't just agree to that, huh?]
no subject
[It's a... kind of a dump, but it's Riku's home, and sure it's a little- okay a lot- bit rough around the edges, but Sora's nothing if not an optimist.]
Have you been living here long?
[Maybe it's new, maybe it just needs some homely touches added to it. It's a fixer upper!]
no subject
He shrugs at the question.]
A couple of months.
[Pretty much since the moment he's decided to stay in Wyver permanently, which was a while ago already. With the little he'd made from the jobs he'd gotten through Highwind Hires, it was about all he could effort, and until now there wasn't a reason to try to move up.]

Instead, he starts walking around, looking at it all with acute attention, examining every nook and cranny of the place with what isn't anywhere close to an expert eye but definitely an open mind.
Okay, so it's not palatial, but it's got potential! If Sora squints hard enough, he can imagine a couple of beanbags in the corner, maybe a few posters on the wall and- oh wow, what if they got bunkbeds? Or hammocks? Or bunk hammocks?
After a quick circuit of the place, he glances at Riku over his shoulder and, unable to hide an excitable grin, he proclaims:]
I like it! We're gonna make this place awesome!
no subject
The look he shoots Sora once he's declared his intentions is somewhere between amused and a little wary, and he really can't help but ask:]
Is that so… and may I ask what exactly you plan on doing to it?
[It's not like they have that much space…]
no subject
[He points up at the tin sheeting roof and then makes a frame out of his thumbs and forefingers.]
That way we can watch the stars. You know. Like we used to.
Oh, and we could get bunk beds!
no subject
[Riku leans towards an amused tone at Sora's enthusiasm, even if he doesn't think that they really have space for beanbags and he isn't sure if Wyver even has posters of the kind that Sora is thinking of.
The bunk beds have potential though.]
We'll have to get money for any of those though. My salary from the Altar probably barely covers rent and food.
no subject
Okay, so I’ll get a job too! We’ll get this place all done up in time for when Kairi wakes up, just you wait.
[For Sora when it comes to the subject of Kairi waking up, it’s always going to be ‘when’, not ‘if’. How could it be anything else? Their friends will wake up and join them, he just knows it.]
What d’you do at the Altar anyway?
no subject
As for what he does at the Altar.]
Cleaning, mostly, though they let me help with the Pact by now. And, I’m studying magic there.
