I have no idea, [ he admits. ] I haven't been here for very long, and given the political tensions, it seems like people aren't willing to do a whole lot of open talking about it.

[ He's had a run-in with Cree, but that mission is one of the extended ones and it's not done yet so idk how it turns out yet fml it was brief, and Jim finds his motives and goals mysterious, so far. ] How about you? Been around long?

[maipokerface]

You could say that. I ended up in another town about six months ago, somewhere around then anyhow. And I sort of just ended up meandering my way here.

[In other words everyone in Olympia started hating her not-so-subtly after the Gala so she left. She doesn't seem to broken up over drifting around.]

Six months.

[ Jesus. This place-- Jim still doesn't want to believe the overarching situation is real. (He believes the planet, these people, are all real, but he's still stuck on all your homes got eaten.) ]

Uptight nationalism not quite for you? [ Something like a joke, in his expression. Gently trashing Olympia for the sake of potential audiences; personally, he doesn't care. Olympia reminds him of Romulus and Wyver reminds him of Qo'noS so he's just one big shrug emoji. ]

Let's just say I've had my fill of it for one lifetime.

[The Fire Nation was all about some of that uptight nationalism after all. Mai had never exactly been concerned with thinking of the other lands and such as lower than her own but she'd equally never realized how bad her own people were until the end of the war.]

I feel you.

[ Fighting against it, if not living in it. The bartender is finally giving him a bit of a look, and Jim raises a hand, nods. Alright, alright, he'll have a beer. He looks over at his companion, eyebrows up. Want a drink?

Once that's settled-- ] Jim Kirk, by the way. Nice to meet you.

[Mai slides her cup over and... it's tea. Green tea.]

[ Another green tea it is. Jim smiles. It takes all kinds; probably, he should ease up on drinking intoxicants in Wyver anyway, but eh, it's a bar, and he'll go ahead and earn his keep (and points with the proprietor). ]

Mai. [ He nods. ] So - whether they end up with one group or the other, are you thinking about joining up with the effort to look for the shamans who ducked out?

[maipokerface]

[Mai takes a moment to think about the question.]

Maybe. I'll be honest, I've kept my hands out of most of this - well, beyond doing a little drinking during the celebrations.

[And fighting a little, you know how it is.]

It's not been my place since I'm a refugee and all. And I have other things I care about more than what the masses want to do to each other around here.

[Her sleeping family and all of her close friends on the space station. They matter far more to her than any petty squabbles between populaces down here ever could.]

How about you?

Supposedly this is our home now, [ Jim points out. ] We're not just transient guests. Whatever upstairs might think about it [ how do you code word the Natha? jeez ] we do have to live here, and we aren't free from being impacted. It's definitely our business.

[ Neutrality is really only achievable by becoming a mediator, in Jim's opinion. Otherwise it's just inaction wearing the guise of neutrality, which causes a whole host of problems. ]

I'm giving it a go. It's not right that they just get to bail, after everything that happened.

[maipokerface]

[Our home. There's a twist of guilt in her heart at that idea. Rows and rows, pods and pods of sleeping people and yet it's her that wakes up, only her. And she gets a new home, does she?

Mai easily enough leaves her thoughts as just that, her expression mild and just slightly annoyed.]

No kidding. Whether they're the ones definitely at fault or not, it's only right they be caught and questioned about it at the very least.

[ Jim understands that particular unspoken sentiment very well. ]

Yeah. And I hope they do get questioned - I guess that's something worth thinking about, what faction would be the most likely to leave them alive for further investigation.

[ Wyver is ... awfully cool with excessive violence. ]

Olympia. Definitely Olympia.

[She doesn't hesitate in saying that, very bluntly, because she very bluntly agrees with him.]

Well, maybe. They aren't exactly friendly if they don't like you.
