[ Dick would like Clark. Bruce knows this even without having argued with him over the solution to the problem of Superman. Dick's one of those people whose faith is steadying, whose light is unyielding, whose presence is as necessary as air. ]

[ He feels a little helpless, watching this young boy ask if he can sit at the computer with Bruce today, look over some of their cases. ]

I think you'd say that.

[ He gets just a little closer, still not touching, not violating the degree to which Bruce has sanctioned their contact. More quiet- ]

I think anyone would say that.

[ When it is said in his heart. The memory-Bruce turns towards Dick, steps towards him as though drawn by some unseen force. Their conversation is warm, comfortable. (He's young, Bruce thinks. Not yet confronted with stark truths of the warpath he's chosen.) ]

I never do hear much.

[ It's the farthest thing from a criticism he can give. It's the truth, spoken plainly: Bruce speaks more in his silences, in what he does in the place of words, than in words themselves. The words aren't an admonition.
