( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |
Shell Overlord | Blood Bank
[Shell found himself mometarily distracted from all his previous worries by just how overwhelming beautiful the world around them was. The forests were so green, the air felt so clean, and even if it was a bit warmer than he would have liked, there was something so novel about being outside during the day that he found it difficult to mind. But come nightfall, he feels considerably more relaxed, finding a spot by a campfire where some acolytes are making smores with refugees. Was that a custom here, or did they learn it from someone who arrived today? Everyones looks so excited, it's hard to tell who's enjoying it more.]
[Shell takes part as well, but considering he's a vapire, well... once the smore is made, he turns to someone sitting nearby (whether they've joined the circle around the fire or not) and offers it to them.] Er, are you hungry? I can't eat this, but it looks too good to go to waste!
2. Extreme Weather
[The sudden blizzard is certainly no fun, especially when thrown in conjunction with very cold temperatures even in areas where it doesn't appear to be snowing. But curiously, the young man standing beside you doesn't seem the least bit effected by it, not even shivering. In fact, as he looks over and sees you, he shrugs off his jacket and unwinds the scarf from around his neck, offering them both.] Here. I don't know how much warmer it'll be, but you look like you need them more than I do right now.
[...ooor maybe the weather is suddenly far too hot, the air practically sticking to your skin from just how humid it is. In which case, Shell can be found laying flat on the ground under the shade of a nearby tree, panting and sweating. As much as he'd like to be traveling at night, it was too dangerous to do so when all the mysterious creatures that lived in this planet were up and about. Even the normal sunlight was too warm for his tastes, but this--] Do you... have any water?
3. That Memory Sharing Prompt
A. Pain without love | cw: blood, sexual torture
[The illusion around them is of a white, pristine bathroom in what appears to be a very nice home. But the scene before them is rather shocking. Standing up against the wall is Shell, completely stripped of his clothing and wearing a metal collar around his neck, tied to a nearby pipe with a heavy chain. Behind him stands a human with dark hair and dark eyes, dressed in black and wielding a whip. "Your punishment isn't over yet," the man says, before cracking the whip over Shell's back. His screams of pain echo throughout the small room, as Shell begs for him to stop, that it hurts, that he's sorry--]
[But the illusion won't end. The punishment never seems to end. And as the Shell of the past collapses to the ground, his back red and bleeding, the real Shell also crouches down to the floor, hiding his face in shame.]
B. The stupid option | cw: crippling secondhand embarrassment
[The illusion this time opens to a simple room, where a teenaged Shell appears to be studying a book very carefully while trying to copy the instructions inside... which appear to be instructions for Shibari. He's fully clothed and managing pretty well, his legs already tied perfectly from a previous attempt. But in trying to get the knot right for a harness that loops around his back, he accidentally sticks his hand through a loop and it gets stuck. And in trying to free himself with his other hand, that one gets stuck.]
[The end result is a young man flopping around on the ground, Trying His Best™ and completely tied up through his own stupidity. Please, have a laugh at his expense! The real Shell will be over here, face bright red and trying to get people to stop watching. Because unfortunately, it seems a small crowd got swept up in this one. Someone please help him.]
C. Wildcard
[Or maybe he's stumbled into one of your memories! Or a chain of multiple memories! Hit me with whatever, or message me to plot something out!]
3-B
Chuuya is no asshole, but he can’t help but snicker at the sight. It’s not a mocking laugh, more of a “haha that’s dumb and cute” laugh. Poor Shell looks mortified.]
Not exactly what you thought you’d see in a random flashback, huh?
no subject
[But really, humorous scene aside, Shell's reaction is only adding to the comedy of it all. He's not exactly making the most dignified expressions right now.]
Ch-Chuuya! How do I make it go away!? I don't want people to see this!

So Dia's just wandering around, curious and idly exploring when Shell's voice reaches their ears. It makes them pause and actually wander over, crouching down by his side with their brow furrowed in concern.]
I do.
[They smile brightly--Diamond to the rescue!--and reach for the starterkit thing they're still carrying around. The water bottle is filled, because they'd been told they should fill it so. There it is... It's not as freezing cold as it was before, but Dia hasn't been wandering in the heated area that long.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, Dia isn't sure what to...do ...with it. What id organic beings do with water? The fish, jellyfish, and slugs swam in it last they saw, and they knew the plants and flowers needed to be watered to survive... So following this logic, then obviously Dia had to--
Open the bottle and start carefully pouring some on Shell's head.
They looks so proud of themselves.]

3b ah how can i not
But what is this now? He's never seen this young man before. Is he trying to tie himself up? ] Am I peeking into the memories of an idiot? No, there's probably more to this ...
[ If there's anything that defines Rohan, it's his insatiable curiosity. When something unique is happening before his eyes, he's compelled to figure it out. ]
Oh! I've got it! Isn't this just a kink? Can't believe this wet dream is just out there for all to see ...
[ Though he doesn't actually want to watch a porno, he wants to see if this guy will succeed. He looks resolved, after all. That's why Rohan keeps watching, ah ... ]
Good good
[To say Shell is upset would be an understatement. He doesn't need Looky MrLookerson making comments that everyone else has figured out by now!!]
[Which is why he's going to just go ahead and put himself between Rohan and his younger self. Height aside, he doesn't actually look that much older now, but that's #justvampirethings. In reality, this memory was almost 15 years ago.]

... okay. What's wrong with it. [ he sniffs. ] I can't smell anything weird.
[ and his ears twitch, gently annoyed. ]
no subject
Oh, there's nothing wrong with it at all! I have a... special diet. So I'd just get sick if I ate something like this.
[He knows from Reign that there aren't really many vampires here. Would it even be safe to admit to being one?]

Less fortunately, perhaps, that means there's time to focus on his expression as he slowly figures out what's happened here isn't a spectacularly botched kidnap attempt. Well, then. He clears his throat and walks across for a closer look.
This isn't how his power works, but he's getting used to being thrown into people's memories now, enough to know that some let you interact and some function as a VCR stuck in playback. In this case, he finally notices an older version of the kid on the bed stuck in the corner.

it's not the kind of peril arjuna was expecting to act on. he already has his bow out, but he realizes there probably isn't much he can do in this regard. ... and the young man must be this individual here. embarrassed, and arjuna can't say he blames him. in a way it's kind of relieving. he supposes everyone had their secrets.

[At this point, Shell is just completely Done™ with this world and this wacky scenario. He's reached an odd sort of equilibrium amidst the shame, allowing him to appear relatively calm in the face of... well, all of this.]
Yeah. Thanks, I know.
[Teenage-Shell has now rolled off his bed and onto the floor, face first. And there he lies, silently, silently acknowledging the shame that has now overshadowed every other misfortune he has ever suffered in his life--]

He even tried closing his eyes and opening them to see if that would end the punishment. But it doesn't. It just. keeps. going. ]
Ugh... what's going on?! Why won't it stop? [ He even rattles the doorknob in the bathroom only to find it doesn't answer to him. Eventually, as he tries to ignore the nakedness and the blood combined, he manages to spot the real Shell crouched on the floor and points an accusing finger at him. His face is red in embarrassment as he recognizes him as the naked man. ] Oi, you!! Cut it out already!
no subject
[The reply he gets is as sudden as it is cutting, Shell struggling to deal with this on top of everything else he's been going through. Sure, this may have been his fantasy that finally came to life, but-- but the greater context he learned only after all of this only made watching it now painful in a way he never really thought about before.]
[How many of his screams for One to stop were genuine? How much did One enjoy tearing into his back with that whip, not out of a mutual desire for their "play", but because he really and truly hated Shell for what he was?]
[He chokes out a sob, bringing his hands up to his ears to try and tune out the sound of his own pleas for help.]

until the memory continues, on and on, dragging on its host's lashings and ignored cries before eugene hits his threshold of patience, frowning as he closes his eyes and rubs at the bridge of his nose. he wonders if he can say anything palliative enough to ease the burden of embarrassment off the poor guy, especially when he sees him hiding in such a way. )
Ugh. What the hell, I don't want to see this...
( eugene murmurs, shoulders lifting in a sympathetic wince as the beating continues. the poor guy...eugene can't blame him for hiding in such a pathetic manner, but it makes him uncomfortable. mostly because he feels awful, as if him witnessing all of it just makes the trauma worse for the guy. he never asked for this, never willingly wanted to share such a painful memory. )
Hey, no no no no, none of that.
( eugene frowns and presses his boot to shell's back, nudging him to accentuate any strictness he's attempting for. the beating in the memory is...still...going on??? who is this freak? )
Get your ass up!
no subject
[But the reaction he triggers from pressing his boot into Shell's back -- his back, of all places, with a memory like this going on -- is immediate. Shell lurches forward, hands pulled away to catch himself as he scrambles backward and away from Eugene. And as he cowers there against the wall on the floor, he reveals the tear-streaked face and look of near horror he's been hiding this whole time.]
[It was just too much. Losing One, losing his world, losing whatever trace of dignity he had left... and how, his secret was being revealed to stranger. What was he going to lose next?]
S-Stay back!!
[The words come out broken, his voice faltering and surprising even Shell himself.]
[There's really no reason for Eugene to follow that particular order. But if he ignores it, Shell might just be forced to defend himself -- and that wouldn't be a good time for anyone, really.]

Closed to Reign | cw: self-harm
Maybe we should save the tour for tomorrow? I'm feeling a little--
[But he won't get to finish that sentence, because in the next instant, their surroundings change. This likely isn't the first random memory they've been pulled into, but it will be the first one they've seen together. Suddenly Shell and Reign find themselves standing in a small shack on a human farm. But they're not alone, as a familiar figure is suddenly dragged in through the door.]
["Are you out of your damn mind, Shell Overlord!?"]
[Reign should know the human standing across from Shell all too well by now, even if his appearance is a bit different here. But the real Shell standing behind him still has no idea how much Reign knows about all this.]
R-Reign, this is...
no subject
As excited as Reign was to show Shell around Olympia, he knew that his friend needed proper rest especially after the travelling. He nodded, opening his mouth to reply when suddenly they were thrown into some weird place. ]
Wha--?
[ He blinked, recognising where this place was, though not knowing whose exactly it belonged to until he saw who got dragged into the room. Wait, what was happening? Why was Shell here with that human Banker? In fact, Reign couldn't help bristling a little at the way the Banker manhandled his friend. ]

Oh— sure. Waste not, want not, that's the motto I was raised with. [ And he takes the s'more, eating it while his gaze travels back to the fire, and he keeps talking, in a voice of little profundity. ]
You really have to wonder whether fires only seem alive because they go out.

[His own gaze falls back to the fire, but not before taking a glance at the man sitting beside him. It was still a bit strange to be living around so many humans... or at least, non-vampires. He's learned by now it's better not to assume one or the other right away.]

[ Well this is different, but the noise that is both a mixture of shock and amusement makes it apparent that Crowley is no where near the cusp of complaining. There's a small tilt of his head as he examines the memory, blinking thrice when the "punishment" rolls in. ] Oh. Huh... now this is making sense.
[ But he's not entirely interested in watching the whole thing, so in time he turns back to the real Shell. Poor guy, they just... they just met. And already he knows he's a freak. Sad! ]
Don't be embarrassed, I've seen worse.
YELLS SOFTLY...
[He's crouched down on the ground with his hands over his face, not sure if he's rather drown out the sight by covering his eyes, or drown out his pleas for One to stop by covering his ears.]
