( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |
It's not Gucci but lets go clothes shopping! (Wildcard)
So when he spots a rather... eccentric looking fellow, Cam sidles up next to him, immediately getting into Rohan's personal space as he takes the stranger by the shoulder.] ...And over here we have some of the finest tailors Olympia has to offer!
[Help a friend out, Rohan?]
no subject
Unfortunately for Cam, he's caught Rohan in one of his rather absorbed moods, where he's hyper-focused on whatever is currently interesting him and not quite caring to pay attention to anything else. People in particular tend to fall out of his peripheral when he's like this. This is his first day in Olympia, and it's only natural that the first thing he would want to do while in this medieval-looking town is to take pictures of everything ever. For later reference, you know.
He's in the middle of snapping a photograph of one of the stalls when Cam gets up in his space, and his bristles immediately. ] Is that so? Hm, I will admit this handiwork is good, but I wouldn't call it one of the finest.
[ Off to a great start already. Insulting the tailor's wares. Now, he looks at Cam, dismissive in his tone. ] And I don't know you, why are you touching me?
[ Really off to a good start ... The tailor frowns. ]
no subject
Cam's smile only wavers momentarily, but he's rolling with it,] What are acquaintances if not future friends? It would be wrong for a noble Olympian citizen such as I to not introduce a newcomer to a fine establishment such as this.
[He gives the tailor a wink, trying to mend whatever damage Rohan caused with his insensitivity.]
no subject
Come to think of it, he did see some of the shopkeepers giving out freebies to whoever helps show the newcomers around. That must be why this person randomly came up to him and is trying to urge him to play the part of the bright-eyed, confused newcomer. Rohan doesn't actually like the clothes here that much so he doesn't care for them, but he does feel like messing with this guy a little. Might be fun... ]
Oh. Now that I have a better look at you, I can see you're one of the heroes of the city too. [ He's wearing that medallion. ] No wonder you're so dedicated to helping me out ...
In that case, will you buy this for me? [ He points at one of the scarves. ] As a newcomer, I don't have any money, so ...
[ With how the possibility that they might actually buy it is on the table, the chances of getting it as a freebie is now pretty much out the window. Sure, the shopkeeper loves heroes, but he's here to make a living too. ]
no subject
Next time mooch off of a man who didn’t spend all of his ACP on a magic chamberpot.]Ah— I don’t have any money with me. [He casts a glance to the tailor, who already looks annoyed,] Buuut… [Gotta save this,] I’m sure they can work out some kind of IOU situation! That’s how I got my first job in the city!
[Look at this, Rohan, he’s already helping you become a productive member of society.]
no subject
Hard to believe one of our famed heroes goes around without a penny! You surely got many rewards for your heroic deeds. Oh, but I understand now, you must just be too stingy to help out a newcomer in need ...!
[ The shopkeeper is growing increasingly tired of their shenanigans and flip-flopping story. He really just wants them to leave. ]
no subject
[...He didn't but that's beside the point. He turns to the shopkeeper,] Good tailor! What can you get my dear friend here in return for... say... a month of his labor?
[This poor shopkeep did not ask for this.]
no subject
A month?! There is nothing here worth a month of my labour! Original manuscripts drawn by me used to go for millions of yen at auctions, just so you know. And each comic page would only take me an hour to draw.
[ He was a Famous Manga Artist. But does Cam even know what manga is... ] This whole store might not be worth a day of my labour.
[ The shopkeeper finally decides that he's heard enough, and he grabs a broom, desperately poking the other end at the two bickering men in an attempt to get them to leave.
"I don't even know what you're talking about, and I don't care! I don't know what you two want here, but I need you to go! Now! You're scaring away the real customers!" ]
no subject
Cam makes noises of protest, but they are soon broomed out of the store, left to sulk on the sidewalk outside,
Turning to Rohan,] Aw, now look what you did!
[He might be a little at fault, but Rohan is definitely the worst one of the two.]
no subject
Me? I was only speaking the truth! You were the one trying to use a newcomer to get free stuff. Is that medallion even real? [ Act more like a hero of the city, Cam!! There is a part of Rohan that acknowledges that it's his fault for trying to mess up Cam's plans, when simply going along with them might guarantee a much smoother outcome, but heck if he's ever going to admit to that. ]
no subject
[Cam might be really embarrassing and sometimes a piece of crap, but he is a 100% bonafide hero. Meanwhile, inside the tailor’s shop, the shopkeep stares out of the window in dismay at the men continuing to bicker in front of his business.]
What’s wrong with free stuff?
[Mooch and hero are not mutually exclusive titles.]
no subject
Nothing. I just hate being made use of, so I thought it'd be fun to teach you a lesson.
[ There. That's his honest answer. He just wanted to be an asshole to Cam, and there's no deeper meaning to anything he had just done. ]
no subject
…Soooo, what if you were in on it? There's more shops all around the city.
[
Lesson=not learned.]no subject
[ That sounds kind of fun. He loves doing barely-legal things like that. ]
no subject
[Maybe. It sort of is. He's not really trying to do something super immoral. Cam just is a mooch and likes free things. But he seems to have a partner in crime now, so he nods,]
So what first? I mean, it's still sort of a tour, right?
[See, totally legitimate.]
I'm Cam Buckland, by the way.
no subject
We'll go to that stall. I passed by it just now, and they sell clothing far more stylish and affordable than anything you can find in this trash heap. [ Is he speaking louder so that the shopkeeper who kicked them out can hear him? Yes, totally. Maybe Rohan's bitter about being swept at by a broom. ]
I want that shirt in particular. [ Rohan points at the skanky crop-top on display. Yeah, this is the sort of thing he wears all the time. ] So, I just have to pretend to be the clueless newcomer being led around by the kind and helpful hero, yeah? Want me to call you 'senpai' too?
[ He's slightly sarcastic but he'll do it!! For free stuff!! ]
no subject
[He has no idea what a senpai is, sorry, dude. Cam's eye follows where Rohan is pointing and he can't help but make a face. There's no accounting for taste. But Cam already threw himself into this he is going to get free stuff, damn it!
He clears his throat,] And over here, you'll find one of our finest establishments in Olympia. [Why is he talking with a fake posh accent?]
[Turning to the tailor,] Good tailor! I am just showing this newcomer around. You may have heard that a group of them came from above, bathed in the Goddess' light!
[Yeah he's milking it.]
no subject
Yes, I've been so lost. What luck that [ He didn't quite pay attention when Cam introduced himself ... It takes a beat before he remembers. ] Cam here happened to find me.
[ Anyone who knows him might find the tone he's taking right now sickening, given his regular day-to-day attitude. ] These are some good styles you're carrying, Mr. Tailor. [ please give them free shit ]
no subject
Right. As you can see, this poor man's clothes got damaged on the way here. [It's the only way he can make sense of such fashion choices.] Honestly, my clothes have seen better days, since the dangerous extremists kidnapped all of those people. [He flashes his badge, and a winning smile. The tailor makes sympathetic noises, coming around to circle the two, much more receptive than the last tailor had been.]
We were looking for something new for him. Something dashing. Maybe something like mine?
no subject
No. I want this. [ Really like a kid at a toy store, demanding things to be given to him. ]
