( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES

vane is about ready to backpedal at the first question. feeling kinda bad for how uptight and badly the guy is taking it. but then, he's soon met with a myriad of insults??? ] Hey... [ was armor a no go in this sort of place?? ]
You call it a tin can, but I can't help it! It's all apart of the uniform! [ what's a knight without some armor? ] Besides, I never knew you weren't supposed to wear this kinda stuff in here. It's not like I've been here before... [ he begins at least taking off his shoulder strap, before he suddenly stops.
hm, if he removes this and some monsters come out to attack them...
ah, well. they'd probably be fine. rohan did have a strange ability of his own, didn't he? ]
no subject
It's only a basic decency. Do you see anyone else wearing armor in here?
[ Just going to gaslight Vane more to further drive the point home that Rohan Is Right. ]
no subject
but, it isn't like he was prepared to jump into this? or so vane thinks. still, he stops mid-way, as he then peeks back at rohan. ] But, hm... so this is the kinda stuff you're always wearing, huh?
[ actually, now that he took of his shoulder piece... it makes him think does anyone even notice? he seems to look around. actually for such an expansive space there aren't as many people as he'd expect. he tries to turn around to look, but since he's holding onto his armor and his spear, he accidentally. .. knocks down a mannequin. ] Oh? Sorry about that, miss...? [ oh...
it's not a person. at least that's lucky? ]
no subject
[ Meaning he's mainly concerned about himself. Rohan doesn't bother putting the mannequin back in place. He simply walks right over it, like this is his house. Well, technically, it is his memory. ]
If we want to escape this place, we should look for things that don't quite belong. Something you would find in El Nysa, rather than here. [ From what he's experienced, that usually seems to be the case. No vision is perfect; some form is reality will slip through eventually. ]
no subject
[ honestly, it's a little difficult when he doesn't really have a frame of reference for this place, however if it comes to detecting things from el nysa, he feels he's familiar enough with that. ] What about that? [ it seems they're not the only ones scrambling their way through memories and false realities ...
what vane points to is a strange colorful ... jelly-like creature? ] That's not a ... Gucci, is it?
no subject
Of course not! I already told you what 'Gucci' was ... [ Please pay attention, Vane!! Rohan doesn't bother to explain himself again, now fixated on the jellyfish instead. ]
It's definitely a creature native to El Nysa, but I don't know which one. [ It's also their ticket out of here?? Rohan knows this, but somehow, getting out of this memory isn't quite his top priority right now. ] More importantly, its tentacles have such a vibrant gradient of colour, it's hard to believe it's all natural.
[ He takes out his camera, pointing it at the jellyfish. ] I need to get a picture of this, but ah -- one of the mannequins are ruining my shot.
[ Rohan gestures at the offending mannequin, expecting Vane to take his cue. Go move the mannequin for him, servant-kun. ]
no subject
also, as always... man, rohan was always so into these weird little things, huh? he seems to give an easy-going, or almost dismissively comical chuckle. ] Even if you don't get a picture of it, I don't think this little guy is really going anywhere—?
[ but, seeing as how the other male is pointing towards it so fervently...
well, it's no surprise that he complies easily enough. except, when he reaches over to the mannequin, he misjudges the position of the jellyfish. especially as now that its spotted, it doesn't seem to want to remain stationary. it darts beneath vane's hand, and he accidentally ends up grabbing it.
oops. it has a squishy sensation, something he notes before its tentacles end up wrapping around his wrist. ] ...?
no subject
Do you see that? Its colours are changing! I need to get a picture of this -- [ Snap! Snap snap! Smile for the camera, Vane. ]
You can stay where you are. You're probably what's making it change colour.
no subject
he was a bigger guy and so it doesn't seem like the poison hits him immediately. if anything, it's a slower burn, and at first vane seems perfectly fine. ] Another one? I thought we were trying to get out of... [ and then suddenly it seems to hit him at once. his mouth becomes a little tired at first, and so he slows down his speech. then, his arms seem to be failing him.
suddenly, vane ... falls limp. ] I... think we have a problem.
no subject
[ Rohan's the type to get so engrossed in something he kind of ignores everything else. Right now, he's fixated on the vibrant myraid of colours that the jellyfish is showing. This would definitely make a good painting, something he can put in a bonus cover page.
From behind the lens, he can see that Vane seems to be slumping a little to the side though. ] What's wrong with your posture?
no subject
if anything, he seems infinitely more focused on just ... the jellyfish itself. which vane is easily beginning to detect is a pattern for rohan. something that may have been a little endearing if he weren't swiftly becoming paralyzed. ] I think we have a problem...
[ he says it the best he can. since it seems like it's taking all his muscles just to try and remove his hand further form the jellyfish. now it seems to weasel its way from his grip and release its hold over his wrist.
granted it's not much of a consolation now that the poisons effects are wearing in. ] I can't move.
[ at least, not easily. he can muster enough strength to at least somehow stay on his knees though. rohan help... ]
no subject
[ Rohan even pauses, waiting for Vane to reveal that it's just a bad prank after all. Nothing comes, and the other man only seems to sink lower and lower as he loses more movement in his limbs. ]
Vane! [ Last chance to tell him he didn't accidentally get Vane poisoned! Last chance!!! Still nothing. This is Rohan's cue to put the camera away, rushing over to where Vane is and grabbing on to one of his arms. ] Dammit! You've been poisoned! I should've known!
[ With how much he reads, he is aware of the dangers of nerve toxins. If there's a chance that Vane's breathing would also be compromised, he doesn't actually want to think about what would happen.
Rohan starts dragging Vane away from the venomous jellyfish. It's a bit of a feat, because the guy's kind of heavy. ] We need to -- get away!
no subject
vane tended to be more talkative and while he'd love to ramble onto how he's managed to come into this situation, or the details of the sensation— from registering the jellyfish's mushy-like texture to being unable to feel, for example. but, he can't and doesn't. instead, he waits out the amount of time it takes for rohan to fully register the issue.
thankfully, he does. at the "you've been poisoned," vane tries to do a weak thumbs up. it doesn't work. ] Looks ... like it. [ slow, measured speech. it's too bad they realized too late. to be honest, even in youth vane was more of a mountain boy than an ocean guy, and so he's never really engaged with something like jellyfish.
... the more you know. but, honestly... he's thankful rohan is trying so hard. ] Appreciate it, Ro. [ "ro..." is actually a pretty good nickname too. something that might have to stick after this. for now though, vane tries to see what else they can do.
oh? was that more creatures ending up in here? at least vane feels like he's seen a butterfly and ... ? a bear???
if they're getting in here, there must be a way out. but wait, ... were they safe like this!? ]
no subject
He could take his time with dragging Vane along, but the jellyfish actually appears to be gaining on them, floating in their direction in a peaceful yet sinister-looking manner.
Rohan eventually tries to hoist him upward, looping the big guy's arm around his neck and letting Vane lean against him. It's really not easy at all. ]
Why are you so heavy! You should really lose some weight! [ That's the frustration that's calling you fat, not Rohan, Vane. A few steps, and he topples over, Vane falling right on top of him. It feels like he's being smothered. ] Ugh!!
no subject
when vane feels his weight displace once more, he's low-key shook by rohan's temporary strength. granted, it's short-lived. he doesn't even have the ability to really express the pain, and instead just speaks: ] Ow. [ it's late by like 5 seconds, and not to mention he's totally crushing rohan right now. the contact of bodies is firm and while rohan definitely cushioned the fall, vane feels... pretty bad about that. ] Most knights are about here, aren't they?
[ in terms of weight and everything else, but vane speaks mostly muffled as his mouth is against rohan's shoulder. it's actually very hard to speak. still, he doesn't want to crush rohan any longer and so he does his best to muster up some strength. ... and it's barely enough for him to move like ... two inches.
he was thinking he could roll off with the right momentum, but it doesn't seem to be hitting him yet.
it might be easier for rohan to crawl out from underneath. ]
no subject
He gives up on the attempt at moving Vane for now, instead doing what he should have in the first place and didn't ... for some reason. It's totally not because I forgot. And look Araki forgets like all the time, I'm fine. Once the jellyfish floats close enough, Rohan points at it, activating his Stand. ]
Heaven's Door! [ The jellyfish opens up like a book, falling to the ground. Rohan then goes through the pages, but instead of finding valuable information about the creature, all he finds are some ... vulgar poetry. Getting distressed, he starts flipping through more and more pages, only to find more bad poetry and no information he actually needs. When he attempts to write in the jellyfish, his words disappear. ] What the hell?! This has never happened before! It's impossible! This can't be the jellyfish's real file!
[ Welcome to your new life of being nerfed, Rohan. In his frustration, he tears that page out and slams his fist down, accidentally hitting Vane. That page will fall on Vane's head, so he can read it if he wants to. ]
no subject
but it looks like rohan has an idea of his own.
the ability rohan possess doesn't become any less... well, weird. when the man had first showed him this ability, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. actually, he thought rohan might have been in some sort of peril himself (turned into a book, no less), but ... apparently that wasn't the case, and isn't the case even now (probably?) it's why he waits in anticipation, only to be met with a blow to the head and— ] Urk—
[ he looks at the piece of paper that falls on him. it ends up fluttering down from his hair to the floor right beside him. oh? he tries to move his head a little to read it, his head shifting against rohan's leg. he wants to grab the paper, but the most he ends up achieving is curling his fingers around rohan's pants. hence, he does his best to squint:
he doesn't understand how this is supposed to help them?? ] So I'm guessing this isn't a clue to stop him?
[ just clarifying. ]
no subject
Clearly not. [ He says it like it's the most obvious thing in the world, and maybe his harsh tone might even sound somewhat insulting. He's just so frustrated, because he's used to Heaven's Door working perfectly, and everything going his way. This is just unacceptable and it sucks that he has no answers for just what happened.
Also, they might die. That sucks too. Somehow, that comes as an afterthought. ] Looks like my Stand has weakened once again. Hmph.
[ First the time limit, now this ... He's really not about this life of being nerfed. There isn't any time to mope about it, however, and he already threw his little tantrum before. Now, he actually has to think about how they're going to survive this ...
And actually, the answer's quite obvious. Rohan rests a hand on the side of Vane's face, keeping him from lifting his head. ] Keep your head down, Vane.
[ Because he's going to grab the nearest chair and swing it at the jellyfish, bashing it against the coat rack. While he's not the physically violent sort, desperate times call for desperate measures. It's a pity that he has to kill a creature this interesting, but he doesn't actually feel that bad about it, beyond the initial notion that it's 'such a shame'.
Okay, it's probably severely injured, but he's not going to stick around and wait. Time to ...try carrying Vane out again, even if he's never had to lift something so heavy in his life??!? ]
no subject
he deliberates over what this entails for rohan. does this mean they were simply doomed from the first tentacle? he doesn't think its the creatures intention to kill them (probably), but it's ... pretty much guaranteed they'd be stuck in this storm for a while. which is why he does his best to try and think of something. only, while he could direct men on the line, this was probably a lot different than that.
but as much as he wants to question rohan on his abilities, he obeys his orders instinctively. (not that he had a choice). he stays dead still, feeling rohan's hand against his cheek. what he isn't prepared for is how the jellyfish ... is basically smashed. the coat rack pierces the jelly straight on and its tentacles fall limply. if anything, if the jellyfish is still alive, it's certainly in no condition to move for now. its jelly plastered against the racks prongs.
very unfortunate. vane is not sure he's ever seen anything look so deflated and... sad. but he also realizes rohan probably liked that little guy the most out of the two of them and so he seems to .... silently accept this poor jelly. and, maybe... just maybe: ] I-it's probably not dead... forever? [ ....
anyway— ] But are you okay? You're not hurt are you? You look like you're having trouble...
[ so he's worried, but this is also where he realizes, a... h that's right he's heavy. ]
no subject
I am. You're the one giving me trouble. [ With how heavy he is? But it's more the fact that Rohan isn't that physically strong, being just a guy who writes manga for a living. A few minutes of this and he's being to feeling frustrated again. There's no way he can keep this up for the entire trip back into the city. Not to mention the fact that they have to find a way to escape this memory somehow. ] If that jellyfish slipped through the cracks, there's got to be another -- Over there!
[ Sure looks like ...a bear. Before the bear can even react, Rohan's already activated his Stand, forcing it to open up. He then struggles over to where the bear is and writes his commands.
《I will carry Vane wherever Rohan Kishibe wants me to go.》
That should do it. The bear obliges immediately, lowering itself in obedience and allowing Rohan to plop Vane onto its back. Rohan then ties the guy to the bear with some clothes he's found. Incidentally, this also helps them leave the memory, seeing as that bear was not a part of it.
He's never had to work this hard for someone else in his life. Incredible.]
no subject
draw a jellyfish. but it's not a connection vane really makes. if anything he's more concerned with how rohan seems to be doing. it's obvious that this ... present set-up probably wasn't going to work. but, before vane could even think to conjure up some sort of suggestion, rohan is ... back at it again with his strange powers.
this time, it seems to work?! though, he doesn't completely understand how. ] Uh? Rohan? [ pal? friend?
this is very weird being tied onto this bear??? it's even stranger once the bear begins walking on its hind legs.
it's great they're out of the memory, but this doesn't make this any less weird. ] It isn't gonna be this way the whole ride home, is it?
no subject
After a few steps it does hit him that this whole thing is partially his fault, so perhaps Vane deserves some sort of explanation. ] This is faster. I can't carry you the whole way. [ He was barely managing to carry Vane out the store. ] I couldn't look at the jellyfish's file, so I have no idea if you're going to die from this or not.
[ That's why they need to move quickly, and using a bear was the better idea?? He's also bringing Vane to the sanctuary, which shows he sort of cares maybe. ]
no subject
[ ... you can't scare him with this!! except, maybe vane is oddly quiet??
honestly, he was just thinking his body was feeling better. not in any visible way where he's provided any more or less maneuverability, but ... in general? maybe? now that's he's sufficiently scared for 0.2 seconds, he seems to shake it off with a laugh. albeit, stunted from his physical condition not being up to par. ]
I mean, it's a jellyfish? Ahaha... [ says vane... the whole to the sanctuary...
thanks rohan... ]
no subject
[ Scaring Vane a little just for fun? Maybe. Look, it isn't like he's lying, and he's bringing Vane to the Sanctuary anyway! He's allowed to mess with the guy a little. ]
