( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

Vin sees to be examining her as well and Mipha holds herself still so Vin can take her time with it.]
Pleased to meet you, Vin. My name is Mipha. [She bows her head politely, then tilts her head in mild concern] Are you not cold?
no subject
[For now the cold isn't reaching her, despite tin making it feel sharper on her skin, but the pewter she'd already swallowed is starting to burn down. She still has enough for at least a night and a day in the vials she's carrying but she'd rather wait before taking more. At least to avoid any questions.
For now, she'll make do. Following Mipha's lead, she drags a chair across the shack, setting it up against a back and wall and takes a seat... balanced on the back of it, feet on the seat of it. She likes to be higher up when she can. Mistborn things.]
I heard over the wind. [She reaches into a pocket, pulling out that packet of biscuits she'd been given on arrival and takes a couple from the crinkly wrapping. After a thought, she offers it over. It's a small courtesy for showing her this shelter.] So, Zoras. Are they... from nearby anywhere?
[She's still working on who is and isn't a local.]
no subject
She holds up a hand and shakes her head with a polite smile] No, thank you. I'm not hungry. [Vin probably needs it more anyhow.]
We're not local, no. My people are all still asleep, I'm afraid. [Even if she hadn't had her suspicions before, the biscuits packet is familiar enough to Mipha to pin Vin as a refugee as well.] Ah, no, I'm sorry that's not quite true. [Here she seems much more pleased] My little brother woke up as well, just recently..
no subject
The biscuits seem to get the message across and there's a slight ease of tension in her shoulders, at least as much as there can be knowing she's at least dealing with somebody she can speak to openly about being transplanted here.
She withdraws the packet but doesn't take any more out, simply tucking it away into her pocket again. Okay, so there's two fish people wandering around out there.]
That's good. [She nods, and she means it.] I saw the people I know from home asleep... up there. But none of them woke up.
no subject
They'll awaken, some day. I'm sorry it's taking so long. [She means it sincerely too, and after a moment she adds curiously] Is there anyone in particular you're waiting for?
no subject
Anyone--? [Her eyes go wide for a second before she looks down and away quickly. She shifts a little on her seat and toys with the half-eaten biscuit in her fingers.] No. Not in particular.
[There absolutely is.]
no subject
It's alright, you don't have to tell me. It's just that I, too, have some other people I'm hoping will wake first. And if there are some names you'd like to look out for, then telling others could mean you hear about when they awaken much sooner.
no subject
And she's realizing she's caught out when she hears Mipha laugh, and feels her cheeks burn, something that stands out on her pale skin.
It's a good point and a tempting offer. All the same, even if she's since had an object lesson in how good and kind people do exist, she still can't quite extend that trust yet. Not until she can be absolutely sure certain people are really safe. For now, she has to do this alone.]
If anybody comes to mind, I'll remember that. [Her voice is quiet and she frowns down at her hands.] Do you really believe that they're keeping them safe?
no subject
I believe it's within their best interests to keep us happy, and that includes keeping their promises to tend to our loved ones. As much power as they may hold over us, there re a number of us with incredible powers, and all of us teaming up could certainly cause them far more trouble than they'd probably want to deal with.
That said, I don't see any reason for them to lie about it in the first place. They don't seem terribly malicious, and... I've had friends awaken and then go back to sleep. They've been well-taken care of before and after. [Mipha goes quiet again as she thinks.] ...You're also welcome to visit the station again at any time to check on them to make sure.
no subject
[She leans forward, resting her arms on her knees. Could it really be that simple? Simple altruism and happenstance determining who wakes up when? She can't dismiss it outright, perhaps, but there must be more. The so-called "Storm" is still a complete unknown. Whether "they" are malicious or not, there must be more than meets the eye.
There's always another secret.]
But, [she lets out a quiet sigh. take a chance, Vin, he'd tell you the same] if you ever happen to come across a stack of books with somebody named Elend Venture hiding behind it I would... be interested to know he's awake again.
no subject
In return, if you meet a quiet young blond man with pointed ears, named Link, please let me know. [It seems right to give something for her to look out for too.]
What is he like? This Elend Venture.
no subject
[Pointed ears? Whatever. It's a request from a fish so she'll deal.]
Elend is... [she pauses for a moment, searching for the word and finally sighs] ... incredibly frustrating. He's rude, deliberately goes against anything resembling polite behavior, and if he has a book in front of him you'd have better luck getting any attention from a stone.
[She shakes her head, but her voice doesn't carry any actual frustration. Just the opposite.]
But he still managed to become a good man who cares about people. And the world we came from did not make that easy.
no subject
Was the place you came from very... rough? [For lack of a better term to describe it]
no subject
... I suppose you could say that. [She tilts her head back, looking out at the rain outside through the cracks in the small shed, listening to the drops hit the sides and roof. And with tin she can hear nearly each individual one striking the wood. A drop falls and she catches it in her hand, looking down at the clear water in her palm.] But then, I'd say that this world is very soft.
no subject
Perhaps then Wyver would be more your type of place, if you'd be more comfortable in someplace comparatively rougher.
no subject
That's the... jungle. [the word is spoken with a certain unfamiliarity] I'm still thinking it over. Is that where you settled?
no subject
[Just that she knew there was one, and that she'd be able to identify which was which if she suddenly found herself dropped in the middle of one.]
But no, I settled in Olympia. It's more... Open? [Not in the middle of a jungle anyhow.] It reminds me of the castle towns back home, and isn't quite as... wild, I suppose would be a good way to describe it.
no subject
Still, that description. A little wildness and freedom doesn't sound terribly unappealing to her.]
Maybe it would be a good change. Some time away from a big city might be nice... at least for awhile.
