( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

[ it's the easiest answer, but also the most difficult answer. for him to go into his insecurities, his hopes and dreams, and the things that would break his poor heart to a cat would be pretty ridiculous, right? ]
Yeah? Can a cat do... this?!
[ it's not unusual for him to use his skills like this, in this form. but to do it outside of the Metaverse is what makes it feel very weird. ]
Witness my resolve!
[ from behind him, the silhouette of Zorro flashes into existence behind him. with a wave of its rapier, a gust of wind blows right past Yoruichi. clearly not to buffet her with air, but to just... demonstrate! he's not just a cat!!! ]
no subject
Perhaps not an ordinary cat, but a magic cat certainly could. And a cat with magic is still a cat.
[ But she's not really here to needle him anymore, her curiosity far more piqued by the figure of Zorro in the background. ]
Is that [ with a wave of her paw towards Zorro ] meant for show only?
no subject
[ and just like that, Zorro disappears and Morgana feels a lot less cool in front of her. in fact, he's most annoyed by how ineffectual the Garu was. ]
And it definitely doesn't feel as strong as it did before I got put into stasis.
[ this is troublesome. if he can't use the strongest of his abilities, how is he going to keep his friends healthy while being able to defend himself at the same time? ]
But also, I'm not a cat! This is just a disguise.
no subject
For the moment, she's inclined to believe him. There are stranger things than cats that aren't cats, after all. ]
Are you on the run from someone then? Why pick the form of a cat to scurry around in when you dislike it so much?
[ Surely he could have gone with a dog or something. ]
no subject
d i s g u s t i n g ]
No. It's just easier to get around. It's... what I look like when I'm not in the Metaverse.
[ throwing out random ass terms like this to strange cats. at least she's not human or know anything about the Thieves or anything like that because BOY that'd put an egg on his face ]
I don't think you'd understand. I'm not just a cat.
no subject
Anyway. Persona? Metaverse? More terms that mean nothing to her, that go in one ear and out the other. If she were human, with no special talents to her name, no doubt she'd be curious. But like Soul Society, this Metaverse no longer exists, and thus it holds no interest to her. Not compared to the swathes of problems that Nysa does have.
But at least one of his comments she can reply. ]
I understand perfectly well. I'm not just a cat either. [ Which begs the question that she'll ask first: ] If you're not a cat, then what are you? A person?
no subject
Uh... a person? I guess I am. [ but he's gotta get off this line of questioning. it's dangerous to his self-esteem? ] But what about you? Are you a person? I mean, you kinda just look like an ordinary cat to me.
[ says the other ordinary-looking cat, but hey. ]
no subject
Luckily for him, she doesn't question his use of the word 'guess' as anything more than standard modern indecision. Morgana's off the hook for now! ]
Of course. What else would I be?
[ Other than the obvious of what...she looks like right now....
In fact, given how much the both of them look just like ordinary cats loafing around, it should come as no surprise when loud barking fills the air and a large hound dog emerges from the crowds to lunge right for them. ]
no subject
I guess I'll deal with this. [ confidently, he turns and hops in front of Yoruichi, in order to give her cover if she needs it--- because clearly, he needs to be the one to save the day! or something!
and that silhouette appears behind him again, as Morgana channels his energy into his Skill: ]
Zorro! Show your might!
[ a giant boxing glove flies out of the shadow, which swings a rapier in order to produce it. it hurtles at the dog at a blistering speed, distorting the air around it. but when it reaches the dog, it immediately slows down and just... presses against its face, smushing it without doing any damage. ]
Oh.
[ a miss. ]
no subject
Not that Yoruichi needs any sort of protecting, even as a cat, but if this not-actually-a-cat wants to take the lead in shooing the dog away, then she certainly won't stop him. Especially not if it means getting to see more of his power put on display.
Unfortunately for the both of them, it's a power that doesn't seem all that effective, and dog merely whines in confusiom before shaking its head and staring once again at the two of them.
Oh boy. ]
Is that all you can do?
[ Says the other cat, who is doing absolutely nothing to help. ]
no subject
[ said as he quietly takes a few steps backward, only stopping when he bumps right into Yoruichi with a yelp of surprise and a quick shake of the head. he tried his best, after all, and shouldn't that count the most? ]
I'm not seeing you do anything!
[ maybe she needs to take her turn? not like there's such a thing in Actual Combat but sometimes it's just easier to go in a nice and neat order. ]
no subject
If Morgana's expecting anything flashy or extravagant a la Zorro, he'll be sorely disappointed. Sure, Yoruichi has tricks up her sleeve, but accessing them would require her to have said sleeve, something she doesn't have while in cat form. And while she could easily transform, apparently humans get real tetchy when women walk around without clothes on.
So!
Since Great Things (TM) are expected of her, she finally gets off her haunches and in an impressive display of cat dexterity, leaps towards the dog with all her claws outstretched.
Yeah, she's gonna claw the thing until it gives up and retreats. Truly impressive, right? ]
no subject
actually he would have died and no one would be around to revive him.
BUT THANKFULLY ALL HE HAS TO SEE is a dog running away and honestly Mona's about to haul ass away too, lest he be the next one to receive the pointiest and dog-scratchingest of claws. ]
H-hey, you probably didn't... have to be that vicious...
[ twitch. ]
no subject
Once their canine opponent flees in the opposite direction, she preens, flicking her tail once in satisfaction before she lifts one paw and licks it to start grooming herself. There's dog cooties all over her now, gotta get them off. ]
It needed enough reason not to bother it again. I gave it that reason.
[ In the form of a semi-permanent fear of cats. It's fine. Breaking from her grooming momentarily, she looks at Morgana. ]
Would you have done differently?
no subject
Uh. Maybe. I probably would've just ran after my Punch missed. Still, I'm grateful for what you did.
[ even though in his heart of hearts, violence isn't the answer! a long period of rehabilitation is what most people truly deserve. ]
I just hope it doesn't bring friends if it ever comes back.
no subject
You can certainly run now, if you're so worried.
[ Hey, she might even follow. ]
