( introlog #5 ) strangerer things
You have spent the last few days on Thesa Station, taking in the knowledge that your world is no more. Perhaps you've made some friends (or maybe an enemy or two). Either way, you aren't expected to spend all of your time on the Station. El Nysa needs you, after all, and you promised you'd help the planet thrive. Are you ready?
Submit an AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 OLYMPIA REP POINTS OR 2 WYVER REP POINTS, respectively, HERE or HERE. THESA STATION
All refugees on the station are called to the hangar where a large-scale teleporter has been set up; everyone will be sent to the planet together. Simply step onto the space between the arrays and wait. Before they depart, all new refugees will be given a starter kit!
You may have heard about earlier technical difficulties, but don't worry. I promise everything is in perfect working order this time. I'd say I tested it myself, but since that's not exactly possible, you'll just have to trust me! (Please.) The older refugees will also be there to guide you to ensure no one is left confused... or behind. Make sure you wait for them — I've been detecting something odd so I'll be having them meet you at the landing site. Good luck, refugees! Not that you'll be needing it or anything... The arrays begin to hum and glow, quickly building into a brilliant wash of light. It creates a column that travels all the way from Thesa Station to the surface of El Nysa. With the night sky as a canvas, the beam can be seen all the way from Olympia and Wyver — a view that has the natives whispering of blessings. As a sudden but beautiful aurora splays across the sky, the refugees down on the planet receive a message asking them to travel to the landing site — and warning them to prepare for what may come of the strange readings Zasere's gotten from the teleport itself. ON A BEAM OF LIGHT ![]()
Traveling through the light leaves the impression of blinding starlight, a strange sense of weightlessness, and a disorienting moment of total sensory deprivation. The radiance of your teleport hangs bright in the sky above you, a shimmering aurora that reflects off the calm waters below, visible for miles all around.
You've landed on a peninsula to the east of the South Outpost. There's little here — scattered trees on spring-barren plains, with a few overgrown, dilapidated structures poking out of the brush. All is quiet save for the keening of animals and the gentle lapping of waves against the shore. This lonely desolation is hardly the bustling cities and vibrant cultures you were promised back on the station... BY CAMPFIRE'S GLOW. But waiting for you is a group of your predecessors, and with them, a veritable tent city, with portable stoves, coolers of food and drink, comfortable bedrolls, and cheerful rings of bonfires — all that you need to make merry of the night, courtesy of Overseer Voss, who has, thanks to his interest in blessed meteorological phenomena and refugees, decided to make a holy expedition of the affair. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS ![]()
Despite going off without hitch, the new refugees' arrival isn't entirely without incident. It seems that the "blessed" beam of light that brought the refugees down to El Nysa brought something else along with it — a sliver of the Storm. At least the beam was short enough that only a small fraction managed to squeeze through.
But it's enough to wreak a little havoc around the landing site and along the road back toward Olympia and Wyver — and even, for a few days, in the cities themselves. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. The Storm is an undeniably destructive force, and that's proven with this small sliver's effect as it ripples across the continent. While there's no visible sign of its presence, strange phenomena soon begin to appear, corresponding with Zasere's odd readings. DECISIONS, DECISIONS... ![]()
The time is coming to make a choice — perhaps not a permanent choice, but unless you want to spend the rest of your nights out under the stars, you'll need to pick which city you will initially spend your time in. On the horizon, you will see that people have arrived to help you make that decision...
A FORK IN THE ROAD. Refugees and the hyper-religious wishing to hear Voss speak are not the only ones out and about under the light of the aurora. Citizens of both Olympia and Wyver have flocked to a point on the road midway between the cities and where the refugees have appeared, and they all have the same goal in mind: convincing the newcomers who have just descended in the blessed light of Thesa to come to their city and not the other. You've chosen your path, refugee, but that doesn't necessarily make it a permanent one. Watch out for the strange effects of the Storm, which linger still in the two cities and everywhere in between for the next few days before dissipating just as mysteriously as they came, but otherwise enjoy the welcome and make yourself at home — after all, this is home now. FINAL OOC NOTES
An AC-eligible thread with a new character as a participant for 2 REP POINTS FOR EITHER OLYMPIA OR WYVER may be submitted from this log. SUBMIT THE THREAD FOR OLYMPIA OR WYVER HERE AND HERE RESPECTIVELY BY APRIL 29th 11:59 PM EST.
We will no longer be providing overflow posts. In an event where the post hits CAPTCHA, players are advised to move threads to an overflow post on their character journals or create their own catch-all post. These threads remain eligible for AC, AC Rewards, and REP. 1 SILVER = 1 US DOLLAR. |

'Knockin' on Heaven's Door', released by American singer Bob Dylan in 1973. That song happened to come to mind by chance when I first developed my Stand. [ The lyrics don't exactly fit but the name kind of does. Then, it kind of stuck. ]
But I didn't peg you as the kind to enjoy reading poetry ... [ Chuuya just acts like a thug, though -- he sort of is one. Anyway, he's kind of interested in seeing this poem now. ]
no subject
Chuuya is actually just a little bit interested in that explanation.]
You a music lover?
[Is that an insult, Rohan??? HUFF.]
I don’t read a lot of it, so this one stuck out to me.
[Is it really getting dark already? That doesn’t bode well...]
So your stand thing used to be more powerful?
no subject
It sure is getting dark, but Rohan doesn't care. Self-preservation means nothing in the name of pursuing his interests. ] It used to be unstoppable. I could pick apart anyone I want, and make them do anything I want.
[ Bragging a little? Yeah. Anyway, that's probably why the name 'Heaven's Door' is apt. He can basically play god. ] Now, it not only glitches constantly, but there's a time limit. [ He has so much disdain for this nerf, it isn't even funny. He misses being so invincible. ]
no subject
[There’s a hint of amusement in Chuuya’s voice that probably shouldn’t be there, but hey, Rohan is kind of a jerk, so having his powers nerfed only seems fitting. No making people do his bidding!]
Guess you’ll have to adapt.
[By sheer dumb luck, Chuuya had picked the right direction for them to come across something enormous (like skyscraper sized) and jagged jutting up above the marshy land, and after a good few seconds of squinting, Chuuya thinks this might just be...
A dragon bone (a rib, maybe). Holy shit, it really exists.]
Huh. Looks like it wasn’t all bullshit after all.
1/2
no subject
Never thought I'd see a bone this big in my life! From the shape, it can only be a rib. Humans have 24, and animals usually have at least that many ... I can't even imagine how large this creature must have been!
[ Photo opportunity! Rohan takes out his Nikon camera, snapping pictures of the large rib immediately. There's something ruining his photograph though. ] That rock there in front of it -- it's blocking my view.
[ Now, he's going to stare expectantly at you, Chuuya. ] You should move it for me. I can't get a good picture like this. [ bossy ... ]
no subject
[And he killed it! With a little help, of course. Yay for virtual reality.
Chuuya takes out his phone to snap a few pictures himself before glancing back at Rohan incredulously.]
Excuse me?
[Don't look at him like that, Rohan! He’s not here to do your bidding!
The rock is in the way, though...]
Ask nicely and I’ll think about it.
[What an asshole answer.]
no subject
Wasn't I already asking nicely? [ NO .... Look, in his mind that was nice enough. ] Or are you incapable of doing this one simple thing? Fine, I'll do it on my own.
[ And there Rohan goes, trying to push the big rock. He doesn't have super strength or anything - the guy doesn't even work out - so he's just going to fail big time. Rohan doesn't like to admit defeat though, so he's going to keep ... trying miserably ... ]
no subject
Having trouble?
[He watches for another solid minute before finally giving in and touching the rock with a gloved hand. Both Chuuya and the rock glow red as he picks it up and moves it with ease, but he only moves it because he has to prove that he can handle it. Can’t let Rohan call him weak or something.
He drops the rock in the marsh, not really caring where it lands since they (should be) alone.]
There.
no subject
Not that I needed your help anymore, but [ he totally did. he just won't say so. ] you do have your merits as a packhorse.
[ Which is like a compliment but also an insult. Sadly, it's the nicest thing Rohan has said to him today, probably. ]
no subject
Chuuya climbs back up on the pegasus again, huffing.]
Whatever. Take your picture and let’s go.
[If Rohan wants Chuuya to do anything else he’s going to have to bribe him somehow. That’s just how it is.]
I’m flying us back.
no subject
Aah?! I'm not done! I told you that I want to see the giant skeleton. [ This is the equivalent of being dragged home when you just want to stay at the arcade, or something. ]
Don't even think about moving, Horse. [ Because he will glare holes into your soul and grab hold of the reins. While the horse looks a little uncomfortable, it also just wants to go home. Please save him from the scary manga artist, Chuuya. ]
no subject
Then I’m leaving you here, because who knows how long it’ll take to find the rest of the skeleton in this swamp.
[There are a few places where it appears that the overgrown, mossy hills may be covering up something else, but ain’t nobody got time for that.]
They’re going to be looking for their horse if we don’t get back soon.
no subject
[ This sucks, this sucks, why doesn't he have his way!!!! ]
You are ruining the fun day I had planned.
no subject
[God, it’s like dealing with a toddler. At least Rohan gets back on the horse, but since Chuuya is steering this time, he doesn’t bother using his ability to anchor them to the horse.]
Hang on.
[That’s all the warning Rohan gets before Chuuya is having the beast take off into the air. Hopefully Rohan is holding on, or he might just tumble right off.]
It knows where it’s going, so I’ll just let it autopilot for now.
no subject
If you're going to steer, do it properly!
[ And they both ride off into the sunset. End of thread?? ]
