After the kidnapping and the dreadful frights that followed, it's been a long climb back up to a better state of mind, but Atsushi has managed it in the end. It still feels strange to celebrate his birthday, but it would feel stranger not to do it, so he's invited a handful of his closest friends - and maybe some other people he knows less well, if circumstances have prompted it - for a day at the beach. There have been several official occasions and big parties lately, and they have been fun, but Atsushi is in the mood for something quieter now. Besides... a huge celebration just for himself wouldn't feel right.

In the morning, most of the invitees gather at the train station to go to Flona together - though of course it's possible to join the party later, too. While Atsushi has tried to politely fend off any inquiries about what he wants for a gift (with one or two notable exceptions), he's requested that everyone bring something to eat or drink, for a nice picnic together on the beach - and of course he's bringing some things himself, as well. The weather is great, the company is better, and all pets are welcome. Food can be eaten, games can be played, and Atsushi feels his heart swell in his chest, thinking how lucky he is to have such friends and such a wonderful life. How could this be anything but a great time?

Urm... Yeah...

[ Reign rubbed the back of his neck, going sheepish, but also looked proud for having created a scent with Atsushi in mind. ]

This same perfume will also be sold in my shop. Something to share with others, if you don't mind. Ah, but yours is definite the first of its line that I made! So it's uniquely yours.

[ He didn't want Atsushi to take this the wrong way. Of course, there were minute differences between Atsushi's "Moonlight" and the ones he will be selling, though the difference in scent was subtle enough. ]

[And for that reason, more than for his own sake, he'll wear the perfume every day.

It is a little embarrassing to have something made especially for him this way, but... it's an honor more than anything else. Maybe Atsushi doesn't think he deserves it, but he at least no longer actively feels like he doesn't deserve it.]

[ Reign also had a few specially created ones for a few people in mind, such as Chuuya and Diva along with a certain demon. He's pleased that he was able to do something for his friends. ]

Using the perfume is enough of a promotion.

Don't mention it. I would have prepared a small gift for Daifuku too, but perfumes don't suit animals. It'll probably be more harmful for them.

[He looks over at the cub with a smile, incapable of chiding Daifuku even in fun.]

But then, it's not his birthday, yet! I'll have to think of something nice to do for him, then.

[It's just gonna be food, honestly. One thing Daifuku has in common with his mom master.]

If Daifuku were a female cub, I could get some ribbons or something.

[ Which would look undeniably cute on Daifuku. Food worked well too, if nothing else. ]

[It's 9-9 with a teensy bit of cheating, because... that was easy to remember, oops.]

Even if he's a boy, I don't think he'd mind ribbons at all! He might play with them rather than wear them, though.

[ Definitely easy to remember. Scorch's was a long time coming, so Reign had nothing to worry. He wondered how long these animals will live. ]

Is that so? Just like the feline he is. Maybe a chew toy would work.

[By some miracle, Atsushi has never even thought about how long Daifuku might live. He was just happy that the cub hatched and lived at all; with that huge obstacle overcome, everything else had to go the cub's way!]

Yes - or something to scratch!

[ Maybe the Nysan planet was really magical enough to allow these animals to live as long as their masters, which would be a nice touch because the death of either one would be a very lonely thing. ]

Oh, that's a nice idea! I think there are pet shops that sells those.

[ But what were the chances that Daifuku would use a scratch pose only? ]

[Next to none, really. But then, the cub was like its owner: food was most important. Everything else came later.

Still, some kind of scratching post would be good to have.]

There should be, yes!

But please don't feel like you have to get him anything at all! This conversation is getting a bit detailed for something in the distant future.

Ah, you're right. I'm sure when the time comes, I may have a different kind of present for Daifuku.

[ Anyway, it seemed the train was arriving to pick up the passengers, them included. ]

Oh, it's finally here! This is getting all kinds of exciting.

[Oh... Now Atsushi felt kind of bad. The whole point had been that Reign didn't need to get Daifuku anything!! Not that Atsushi would be offended if he did, of course, but his attempt to lessen the pressure had turned out kind of rude somehow.

Oh well, there was nothing he could do about that now.]

Isn't it just~? I really enjoy taking the train out to Flona. We should do this more often!

[ Maybe the date would slip Reign's mind, maybe he'll really remember it. But either way, present or not, Reign would love to celebrate Daifuku's birthday with Atsushi when the day comes. ]

Me too. It's not often I get to ride a train. Where I'm from, I usually use horse-drawn carriages. Occasionally airships too.

[ Tickets were checked, and in they go along with the other passengers. Before he joined the others, Reign turned to Atsushi with a small smile. ]

We do have trains, but not like this one!

[And he never got to ride them that often, either. There was a lot he'd had to learn after he left the orphanage, not to mention when he finally got money of his own.]
