What a field-day for the heat; a thousand people in the street
Who: Davos Seaworth (
wheresmyfingerbones) & YOU
What: Davos goes exploring!
When: all of May
Where: let me get back to you
Warning(s): Likely nothing, will edit if it changes.
a. basic housing - Stannis' place
Davos is remarkably quick on his feet. Most of that comes from his smuggling days, where a ship can crash into shore, or pirates try to take over his ship, or avoiding good men trying to bring him to justice.
But there's some things he's not used to. Turning a small key and warm water comes sputtering out the pipes. And more importantly, a tall chest that can be opened like a door, with light spilling out, nearly blinded the knight. Cold air blast his face, and when he blinked away the light, there is food in there.
Of course, Davos know that coldness does a better job of preserving food than salt. But it feels like an extreme case here. There's no need to blind a man, especially as he noted the light turns itself off when he closed the door.
b. olympia - the markets or the palace
The free month's rent is almost over, and Davos need to find a job. This is harder than he expected, only because there's never a short supply of smugglers. Still, he's torn at the idea of returning his old smuggling days, only because he more or less left that life behind him. (Unless when King Stannis is in need of it.) Except the life he exchanged for his fingers is now gone, alongside with Westeros. A smuggler without a ship, a Hand without a Realm to serve. Quite the conundrum.
Perhaps its better to stave off that question for another day, and work as a crabber.
It's in the markets Davos can be found there, eating a bowl of onion soup with chucks of cod and a pint of beer, while looking over at the map he purchase, and a list of names he's pouring over, to find a good, cheap place to buy a boat. And if trade by boat is even an option.
Davos can be found in the palace's grounds as well, wanting to see who is doing what and why. He takes no part of sparring, as he's not the fighter he once was and even then he was barely passable enough to not to die.
c. wyver - inside the walls
Favoring Olympia over Wyver for the time being, Davos decided to go forth and see this dragon city for himself.
He's honestly not sure what to expect but it wasn't that. Maybe he was thinking too much of the Targaryens when he came through, thinking of the Old King and his royal laws, or maybe King Daeron the Good's diplomacy or the madness and neglect that took over one of the Aegons. But instead he has witnessed something less cohesive than Olympia, with personal might valued over honor. In many ways, he's reminded of his encounters with the wildlings.
Dressed in modest clothes, clothes that would mark him for smallfolk, he settled down to watch and observe Wyver.
In the West End Davos is on the outer ring of the seats, watching dancers performing their craft with their robes and silks, before leading on to what appears to be a mummery, acting out a great battle, with puppets of dragons in the mix. There's jokes calling out, but Davos cannot understand them. He takes a bite out of his meat on a stick that he got from the North End. It tasted like chicken, but he decided to not to ask what it is.
East End is where he's drawn through the most, only because he heard of talk of dragons being most likely being there. And, of course, he wanted to see the fighters of this land as well. Like Westeros, steel often determined matters at hand. (Most of the time.)
But he's more interested in seeing the dragons. Really.
So much so that in trying to spot one, he didn't a dragon circling around lazily high in the sky, directly above him.

Olympia -- Markets
Spotting a gap beside Davos as somewhere gets up he threads over and gestures. He's got some sort of drink and a combination of bread, meat and fruit going on to try and wake himself up.
"You mind?" he prompts, squinting around at the crowds in case the answer is yes and he has to find somewhere else.
sorry for the slow!
No trouble!
"Planning a trap?" He offers, in a lightly conversational tone. The answer might help give him an idea either way.

"I figure people with maps are either treasure hunting, lost or looking for a good ambush spot. Or going on holiday, but you're too focused to be planning a fun vacation. Map won't tell you who's hiring."
He takes a sip of his drink, seemingly content, before adding.
"What're you good at? Aside from steering a boat, I'm guessing."

Davos takes a swing of beer after that, before answering the man's question.
"Nearly everything that includes a boat, with the exception of being a shipwright. I've done trades as well. And smuggling." He takes a drink.

Since that's the vibe he's getting, the question is how far away the guy is from. Is he just from Wyver and he's never set foot in Olympia before? Or is he from the station? It would probably help if John had any idea what Wyver natives or fashion trends look like. As it is, he'll just have to rely on leading questions.

"No. I recently came here."

He leans over and taps a spot on Davos' map, taking a swig of his drink as he thinks.
"That's your best bet if you want to do anything in a boat. Demand for seafood is pretty good. Also, if you're a strong swimmer there's a lot of diving to be had. Apparently some of the lagoons are good places to pick up good stuff if you can dive. Mostly I found they're also places that attractive folk like to swim, but both options are good."
